Aka. I need a list people of things I need to strike out of existence for my personal DL to 4e project.

On my list I have
Takhisis Stealing the World,
Silvanoshei killing her (level 2 rejects... should NEVER kill Lesser or Greater Gods)
Device of Time Travel.

What else?

I would take out anything that happened after the Legends Trilogy (or Dragons of Spring Dawning if you prefer).

Wow that's a large slew of events. Any reason in particular? (I've not got many books past that point.. just summerflame, the 3e setting guide and the age of mortals supplement and it's been a while since I've been through them)

Takhisis stealing the world was a great way to move into the Age of Mortals. It was a genius way of moving past the events of Summer Flame.

Silvanoshei never killed a god. She was a mortal when he slew her.

The Device of Time Travel was awesome.

She was still a god. With a broken weapon, and I don't know if you've ever seen the stats for a god, in 3e even without her divine ranks she'd laugh in his face and eat his soul for a light snack.

Also, someone needs to explain the "Primal Sorcery was weaker" bit when, it didn't limit your max spell level or any such thing. Same with Mysticism. Not unless of course, that meant you know that they KNEW prepared Casters were > spontaneous back in 03 no less. But even that doesn't match up with the way they make it sound. They make it sound like being sorcerous or mystic would only grant you like 6th level spells or something.

Device of Time travel is never awesome. No matter who has it.

She became a mortal the moment she took human form. Paladine had already made his sacrifice. Her taking a mortal shell made the deal complete.

The Device of Time Travel was awesome. It was a plot device, and was used masterfully in the novel line. If you have a problem with it in terms of RPG game balance purposes, then maybe you have a point (I've never played with it, so I have no clue what it does to game balance.)

I'd get rid of Tanis. He just sucks. Big time.

EDIT: Ok, I'll put something helpful in here. I'd get rid of what happens after Summer Flame, it just stinks. (IM) And that is a good question, why is Sorcery 'weaker' in Dragonlance? I dunno, it was these kind of things that made me leave DL. Actually, I'd strike off anything that happens after the Original Trilogy. (actually, the Trilogy focusing on Caramon and Raistlin might be good to keep. Because Raistlin is badass.)

The Raistlin Chronicles? Yeah I was thinking of keeping that.

Tanis is just so... damned whiny. He doesn't exactly inspire great things in me. I'd gut him like a fish if he was our party's "leader".

Yeah. He's even worse than Drizzt, because Drizzt can kick tons of ass. And he really has nothing to whine about "Oh I'm so conflicted and deep and brooding! My elf family hate me but I want to make them love me! Maybe if I stick around enough they'll change!" Later..... "I'm leaving and never coming back! i hate all of you!"

What's really disgusting about Tanis is I think that Laurana is his cousin. Her father is his uncle, making Laurana his cousin, and they have a kid......
This is why I hate dragonlance elves. Sick, disgusting, and arrogant.

That last one's cover alone... so um yea... no more fifth age....

Yeah, Tanis and Laurana have hot incestual luvins (though I guess it's technically okay since Tanis is not even a full elf.... :eyeroll

I like Kender... or at least some kender.

Gnomes... now that is something you should pour hate on.

Their not related. Tanis is Laurana's uncles wifes son, he's a result of human naughty doings that resulted in the speakers brother dead and his missus knocked up with a half human kid.

Possible Spoiler

That is the story given in the original books but later we find differently. I think its in the Icewall Trilogy but I can't honestly remember. His mother actually fell in love with her kidnapper. After being rescued she said she was raped.

- I'm going to second Takhisis stealilng the world (so f*ing stupid). And because of this, there is no Age of Mortals.

- Silvanoshei's infatuation with Mina (not a big fan).

- Also, the death of Lord Soth. I didn't like how he died and they should've just left him in Ravenloft.

- Minotaurs invading and occupying Silvanesti

...Basically everything in/during the Lost Souls trilogy

I would take away the Age of Mortals. After Dragons of Summer Flame Margert Weis and Tracy Hickman pretty much left an open playing field for whom ever wanted to play. The problem is that what the new writers did was create some weird new version of Krynn that didn't make any sense. Magic was gone for the most part and you could only use magic if you had a powerfull magic item and siphoned off the energy. It remineded me of the defiler mages from Dark Sun (in fact the whole thing had a DarkSun feel to it). Magic should never have been tampered with to such a degree. "The Mages are a powerful institution in Krynn. They were founded when the deities Solinari, Lunitari and Nuitari taught a certain group of people how to draw power from the moons and shape it with their wills. With the construction of the Towers of High Sorcery, people from all over Krynn were able to learn the secrets of spellcrafting." It was also explained that the gods lived on those moons and would add magic to their followers. Renegade wizards never gained a boost in magic like mages who were taught at the tower, but that never stopped them from using magic. After the gods were gone the writers assumed that when the gods of magic were gone so was magic.

The Movie.
Jesus Tapdancing Christ was that some kind of horrible animation. The writer obviously skimmed over the contents of Dragons of Autumn Twilight, threw in the whole Fizban is Paladine thing from Dragons of Winter Night, so that angered me. And finally, where's the damn sequals. If they go with some other better animation company for them, that will suck too!

Make them all suck, or none of them, Wizards of the Crappily Animated Coast!

Oh, and actually make a movie, not some hour and a half crap fest. Two discs each, go get Peter Jackson to make the ****ing things, animate it if you want to, but don't get some ass with Flash 3.2 on his computer to do it. Get a real thing going and maybe, just MAYBE, you won't have to do a straight to video release.

But good job on the voices.

Okay dumb question, is there more than just the "animation quality" that was wrong with the Dragonlance Movie? (I have not seen it.) Is it actually true to the books?

Steel coins. How exactly does the logic of buying a massive steel weapon for a few steel coins work? A steel longsword in Dragonlance should cost the same as a gold longsword in other campaigns. This is by far the dumbest thing in any campaign world, ever.

Most people's interpretation of kender. I like kender, I hate most kender pcs.

Age of mortals. Suck it.

Tanis. Worst "leader" ever.

Taladas. How do they manage to make a continent ruled by Romanesque minotaur so lame?

I'm kind of iffy on the whole towers of high sorcery thing. I'd like them if they just approached magic differently, but the whole wearing their alignment on their sleeve thing is kind of lame. Almost nobody believes they're evil, and most people who think they are are just douchebags, not evil.

Kender are very simple. Take a 10 year old, make him a kleptomaniac, and remove all concepts of fear. Done.

Most people simply play kender as an excuse to make everyone pay attention to them as they do stupid things and say, hey I'm a kender.

Number one thing that annoys me about DL.

DL fans who hate on other DL fans because they believe that there knowledge of the subject is superior and that there belief in that their knowledge is so correct that they can not fathom that they could possibly be wrong.

I take the good with the bad when it comes to DL. If we were to sit down and argue about every little thing that is wrong in this series or any series then we would be bogged down in endless debates about fashion styles and if it is possible to create a single weapon so powerful to kill a dragon. Which by the way is possible.

I was not a big fan of Dragons of Summer Flame (it was rushed and the ending was weak), but War of Souls was pretty good. Even more than it being a good series of books, the ending served as a great reboot for Krynn with a sparing use of retconing. Instead of yet another cataclysm, the novels focused more of political and factional upheaval. The Elves are homeless, the Minotaur invasion, the Knights are conflicted between upholding their code and their own self interest, the Draconians have their own nation, the Conclave must rebuild in a world for or sorceress and renegade wizards, clerics compete with mystics, the rise of the Ogre nation, the Knights of Neraka trying to hold onto power, and even the Gods are jockeying for position in the post Paladine/Tahkisis power vacuum etc.

I loved the Dark Queen to death, but as long as she was in the picture sooner or later she came into every plot. Krynn is already set up for 4E, they just need to add some new villains and threats that can come into the mix not completely take it over. Maybe the need to move the timeline 20-40 years but that’s it. War of the Lance is great but they need to let it be, Dragonlance is not a one note campaign

Mina. I never bought into her invincible leadership aura. I just thought "what a load of " THen she becomes a god that doesn't have to answer to any pantheon? WHATEVER Margaret Weis. Way to crash land an excellent trilogy. It's like she ran out of ideas at the end of the trilogy and rushed this last point so that WOTC would publish her lame last book.

Dragons of Summer Flame and the following Age of Mortals. Totally lame. Enough said.

WHy is everyone complaining about Tanis's whinning? THE all time KING of Crybabies is Raistlin! That punk did everything wrong in life and still finds enough time to brood like an emo goth. You tried to become a GOD and failed! Get over it already!

Dragons of Summer Flame and the following Age of Mortals. Totally lame. Enough said.

**Spoiler Alert**

She was a god that didn't know she was a god. She was the center of a conspiracy. The reason she didn't have to answer to any gods was because it was decided that she should be allowed to choose her own deistic destiny. It didn't read like a lack of ideas at all. It actually felt very deliberate by the story's end.

**End Spoiler**

As for Summer Flame and AoM, I wholeheartedly disagree with you that they were lame. Nuff said.

BTW: Weis is writing one more Dragonlance book.

WHy is everyone complaining about Tanis's whinning? THE all time KING of Crybabies is Raistlin! That punk did everything wrong in life and still finds enough time to brood like an emo goth. You tried to become a GOD and failed! Get over it already!

**Spoiler Alert**

I wouldn't say he he did everything wrong in life. At his peak, he was the most powerful mage ever to live on the face of Krynn. He tricked, and subsequently consumed Fistandantilus. He then made Fisty's plan work by getting into the Abyss, and he actually did become a god. Granted, that was in an alternate future that Caramon later thwarted, but in that timeline, he kicked the snot out of the entire pantheon.

Hard to view that as a failure on Raistlin's part.

Hell, he even managed to locate the stolen Krynn when none of the gods could manage it.

**End Spoiler**

And if you don't understand the brooding aspect of his character, you never understood anything about the character at all.

Nothing.

While there were things that I did not enjoy about the Dragonlance setting there was nothing I absolutely hated. Even fifth age (which is what most people seem to want to get rid of), while not my biggest like about DL, did have it's positive (depending on your point of view) contributions.

If you love something then you have to accept everything about it, even the things you may not enjoy. And I have loved the DL world ever since reading my first short story in the "War of the Lance" anthologies.

I say if you want to run the world the way you want to then progress the campaign into the future this way you can make whatever changes you so wish while still keeping everything about DL so far.

Right now my campaign (or at least the one I plan to run if I can ever get a group together), is set in 1000 AC where some of the gods have switched sides amongst other things.
