Greetings. I’ve liked Dragonlance for a long time and I was thinking of incorporating parts of it into a new world that I’d like to create when 4th edition comes out. I’ve always thought the mage test at the towers was a great part of the world. Has anyone else used it in their campaigns? I’m trying to figure out how I can set up a good test without killing the PC.

Try to get a hold of towers of high sorcery by Margret Weis Publishing. It has a whole chapter on the test and how to run one as an adventure.

I think tests will be far better (+wizard duels) in 4E.

3 spells and a max of 12hp means a rubbish test and lots of fudging.

4E will have a wizard that can go from encounter to encounter almost fresh and will take them longer to be worn down to the point of death.

It will be better for scaling down encounter strength - especially with the minion type monsters.

I'm looking forward to the revision to DL.

That's my belief anyway.
