My next DragonLance campaign

I'm starting a new DL campaign two months away from now and, in an attempt to keep this forum alive, I guess I might as well post the campaign's premise here. Do feel free to comment. I'm using 4th edition rules for the campaign.

The campaign is set in 431 AC, 10 years after the War of Souls, and 4 after Markham becomes emperor of Solamnia. The campaign starts in the mostly human town of Robann, in eastern Teyr, where the mayor has sworn allegiance to Kang and has in return been granted rulership of the town. I've modified the east coast of Teyr slightly so that the water of the Miremier bay reaches the town of Robann instead of being beyond 10 miles of swamp. Given the climate and geography of Nordmaar, I'm also assuming the Great Moors to be closer to the Florida Everglades than Onyx' swamps.

The party so far:
Draconian Sorcerer (Aurak or Bozak, Dragon Sorcerer)
Beyond his innate sorcerous powers, he's a diplomat named by Kang to keep an eye on what's taking place in Robann, especially given its closeness the Dark Knight lands, and make regular reports to the capital. Over the years, he's grown attached to Robann to consider it his true home.

Human Swordmage (Shielding Swordmage)
Son of a Dark Knight officier, born and raised in Qualinesti during the Dark Knight occupation under the reign of Beryl, he was sent away to his uncle in Taman Busuk along with his mother mere days before Beryl was slain and destroyed the city. After the end of the War of Souls, his family, like many Nerakans, fled the knighthood and sook refuge in the town of Robann to the north. While not a true knight, he still tries to abide by the code of honor of the Knights of Neraka, and especially the Knights of the Thorn.

Human Rogue (Artful Dodger, or Hybrid Brawny Rogue/Blade Fighter)
Started as a mere deckhand then rose as a full-fledged pirate on a ship who'd raid the trade routes of the northern Blood Sea and off the coast of Nordmaar, using Robann as a safe harbor to hide, rest, makes repairs to the ship, and sell all the stolen loot. Given the one-day trip from the mouth of of the Miremier and the treacherousness of waters near the Great Moor, trouble has never followed them to Robann. As long as things stay this way, the mayor will turn a blind eye, especially considering the prosperity it brings to the town.

Minotaur Warden (Earth Warden)
Initially a fighter aboard a minotaur galley, he fell overboard during a storm and would have drowned if not for the intervention of some sort of nature spirits. He then drifted for days on the Blood Sea until rescued by the human rogue mentioned above, to whom he now considers to owe a life-debt. Whether the spirits were sent by Zeboim, Habbakuk, Chislev, or Sargas, the warden doesn't know, but he's since mixed his fighter training with strong devotion to the forces of nature.

Kender Bard (Cunning Bard)
As he reached adulthood, wanderlust has brought this kender to the town of Robann, and keeps bringing him back to the place where he's managed to befriend a handful of human sailors. He also has an extraordinary talent for taunting and distracting his opponents, even by kender standards.

Draconian Warlord
An petty officier in Neraka up until the War of Souls. Constantly mistreated superiors, when Kang's regiment attacked the Knights of Neraka in Sanction at the end of the War or Souls, he betrayed his former masters and follower Kang and his troops back to Teyr, where he's been assigned as an officier of the draconian watch in the then quicly growing Robann.

Human Wizard
Found a mentor and started to learn high sorcery as soon as the gods of magic came back to Krynn at the end of the War of Souls. When his mentor deemed him ready, the young man was given enough steel to make the travel to the Tower of Wayreth, where he could take his Test of High Sorcery. Along the way, the apprentice made a detour in Teyr, having always been curious about the Draconians, and figuring that a close study of draconian creatures might make a pertinent addition to his knowledge of the arcane. Years have passed and he's still in Robann, having spent the last of his money, always finding a good reason to stay some more, and in fact not too keen at the idea that he's going to take a Test that might end up killing him.

An important point is that, in a similar way to the DragonLance Chronicles, all those characters have known (and are more or less friendly to) each other, and for at least a few years. That's seven characters, but the last two are by the same player, who still hasn't made his final choice. The other one will likely end up as an NPC. In fact, since I don't think I'm going to allow for the Raise Dead ritual in the campaign, I might just ask each player to create a second character who also knows the rest (or at least part) of the starting party, so that he may be used as a replacement in case the first character dies (even though true death is rarer in 4e than in 3.5) without feeling like he poppoed out of nowhere.

Awesome. I am running a Dragons of Autumn game. Maybe after I finish the trilogy I'll do something post War of Souls

I recently converted the Savage Tide Adventure Path and set it within the War of the Lance around the Blood Sea Isles. Sort of a separate epic adventure running parallel with Dragons of Winter Night/Spring Dawning.

I'm curious to see where you're headed with this. I have a pretty good idea of which of your players will be playing which characters. Though the Fifth Age is most certainly not my preferred era of play, that you're starting 10 years ahead of the War of Souls gives you a nice, clean slate to work with. Or, at least, as clean as the mess that is the Age of Mortals.

BTW, will you be using dragonborn statistics for draconian characters and halfling statistics for kender characters? Or did you raid the DL Nexus for some semi-official 4E conversions?

That sounds like a lot of fun. I've been wanting to play in or run a DL campaign for a while, and I've recently discovered that the other DM in the group, and his girlfriend who also plays both read DL. I haven't read past the whole dragon overlords, magic is leeching out of the world, the gods are gone thing yet, I'll have to get on that.

I'm really hoping 4e DL ends up having three wizard paragon paths for white, red and black.

I was thinking, if I run a DL campaign, reskinning drow as one of the types of elves in DL, any advice on which one would work best? Also, can anyone think of a race that could be skinned over half-orcs, so they're playable?

Half-Orcs can be skinned over has half-ogres. There's no real work to be done there.
