| #1damajaSep 28, 2008 19:19:47 | ok this is for our AD&D gaming group that we reformed and plan to move into the realm of Krynn for our gaming purposes. ok on to the post and questions ... How many Dragonlance fans we got here? Yes, myself, my DM and my group are still soul searching for a world we can all agree upon. The generic world that we were working on fell through, it just got to time consuming and we as a whole gave out halfway though, so we all sat down and wondered where we would be happy. The topic of Dragonlance came up. Now ... everyone wants to find a way to go through the entire set of Dragonlance modules that make up the chronicles novels. These modules consist of around 16 seperate modules. But at the same time we want to keep the timeline intact so once the War of the Lance is over with we can make the changes that we want to the timeline and run with it from there. We as a group want to go through the series of modules from the Chronicles and the War of the Lance and when were finished find a way to make it so the Heroes of the Lance still went through it. One idea someone in the group came up with was maybe some type of alternate timeline .... What if ............ this is only a half ass example thought up on the fly. The Heroes of the Lance do there storyline as normal, But ... say something like Paladine and Takhisis decided to do something that had a seperate group go through the same storyline as the heroes of the lance did but in an alternate timeline to see what would happen or maybe by making it some type of challenge where Paladine has to choose his own group to do this quest and if that group fails then some horrid penalty is made to come about, I dunno haha something like that. . Everyone wants to play out the story of the Heroes of the Lance but at the same time they want the original heroes to do it so the storyline stays the same, our DM plans to take the timeline off in our own direction AFTER the War of the Lance ends but we want to try to play out the storyline, for better or for worst but we don't know how to do it. How could this be set up for a new group of characters to go through the storyline of the war and play out the timeline of what the heroes did and not screw the timeline up? I mean there would have to be some risk, such as even though its in another dimension, or timeline or whatever you want to call it, if your group fails, the real timeline suffers the same fate. Once the adventure is over with, the players are transported BACK to there real Krynn with knowledge of what happened but in reality Raistlin, Caramon etc etc actually did this adventure. We as a group really want to do this but were sorta unsure how to go about this. Maybe I didnt confuse this thread to death and hopefully some of you out there have some ideas that would work for the hairbrained scheme we have (wink) Anyone out there have some suggestions for us? |
| #2Duke5150Sep 29, 2008 0:30:56 | I'm in Darksun mode right now so I can't offer good suggestions on how to go about it, but if you really want the best suggestions, go to Dragonlance nexus and post in the gaming forums. You will get replies from Dragonlance experts and they will offer great suggestions. Hope you find what you're looking for. |
| #3damajaSep 29, 2008 7:56:20 | actually I posted this same post there a week ago and it has gotten zero replies, so I went searching for other sites to try to get my answers from. Not sure what happened hehe .... but its no biggee ... eventually I will find what I am looking for. |
| #4marius4Sep 29, 2008 13:54:44 | Ummmm...wow. That's kind of an odd and complicated request, Damaja. Heh...but I don't mean that in a critical way. My first thought was to say just run the adventure with new heroes and leave it as a stand-alone adventure, a "just for fun" game, but you would like to continue on with the characters, is that correct?So....the intentional Paladine/Takhisis experiment thing...is this like the traditional rehearsal war the night before the real war?? :P Here are two other ideas that come to mind: Parallel Dimensions Have the new heroes "match up" with the Heroes of the Lance. In this alternate time stream, Par-Salian and Fistandantilus picked a different mage..... A different half-elf fell in love with a different human and a different elf . You could make some neat twists too to allow your players to really create the new PCs they want. Maybe the Laurana figure is a wealthy Silvanesti merchant family scion rather than a Qualinesti princess, for example. Maybe the Tanis figure isn't even a half-elf; maybe he's half-ogre. Maybe the Goldmoon figure finds a different deity. Maybe the Raistlin and Caramon figures are brother and sister, or adoptive siblings, or a scholar-prince and his life-sworn bodyguard, rather than two male fraternal twins. At the end of the war, their time stream merges and becomes identical to the main time stream. If there were TV, they'd see reports on their exploits but with different faces....the original Heroes of the Lance. ::cue X-Files theme:: It Was All a Dream I think this is a place where you could use the classic "It was all a dream" scenario. The PCs play out the adventure together and then wake up individually from a night of restless dreaming. As each character goes about his or her day, things seem really off. Certain people don't recognize them, and certain things they say draw funny looks. Mysteriously, when the friends all talk to one another they discover that they all had the exact same dream. ::cue Twilight Zone theme:: Note: For both scenarios, depending on what sort of impact you want the revelation to have, you might add an additional element so that it doesn't just SUCK that they get no credit. I'm not sure what that could be at the moment. On the other hand, if you like the cold splash of water, that can also work too. I'm just worried the "mage" figure might not be happy to no longer have the Staff of Magius and all. ;) Question: What exactly is supposed to happen when it comes time for the Legends trilogy events? ![]() |
| #5damajaSep 29, 2008 14:55:38 | SO far some interesting ideas which I have printed and handed to our DM for his review, I would love to see any other ideas you guys have. Everything here is given to our DM and we will trust his judgement on what direction we end up taking. I will try to remember to post whos idea was the winner when he decides ;) |
| #6damajaSep 29, 2008 17:47:29 | This is NOT Damaja posting this, I am at his house and we were both BS'ing about what has been posted and I made him get up from his chair and here I am. My name is Jeffrey btw, hello all. ok well with everything he has posted and the things weve discussed were still in limbo about where and how we want to proceed with our campaign. We have some time due to two of our group being unavailable. One is out of town on his job doing training and the other is out of the state for 3 weeks on vacation. To add to the above post, I could even do the Dragonlance series in an alternate world, simply running everything as is, just changing all the NPC's names and the places that they go and the places involved in the war (alot of work for sure but might work just as well and this in turn solves all of our problems and concerns about screwing up the timeline) I had actually been working on a new world for these guys, it kind of overwhelmed me a few weeks back and I quit with it, but taking that break and pulling it all back out last night, I was interested in it all over again. Think that would work or is this a huge huge huge job and I am just not seeing it? |
| #7dethmetalOct 06, 2008 19:27:08 | If it were my gaming group i think it would go something like this: After the events of the WotL, the characters are effected by a small bit of goddly(orr goddess-ly) spite. Angered over the PC's role in her downfall Takhisis enacts a curse against them. While she can't erase the past events that lead to her downfall she can re-write them so that the true authors of her demise do not get the credit for it. So while the world would still remember the WotL, to them it would have been Tanis and crew that the world thinks are responsible, leaving your PC's the only individuals who know the "Truth" (and leaves them with all the powers/levels they gained, just none of the notiraity) Which could lead to some funny RP scenario's down the line... "No Really, We're! the Hero's of the Lance! Not those other guys!" It could also lead into some other stories, maybe a whole gamming session of how the PC's angered the goddess so much. |
| #8sirpatricshieldstrikOct 21, 2008 8:34:52 | I'm not sure if you read any of the books, but Tas and Caramon went back in time to stop Raistlin from becoming all powerfull and destroying the gods. In one instance Caramon and Tas skipped ahead in time where they found Raist had become a god and was killin the gods and destroying Krynn. Caramon and Tas going forward back to their original time line have to stop Raistlin from leaving the Abyss. This opens up various alternate time lines including one where the original companions never meet thanks to Tasselhofffs interference. You can now start your story from thier where your group with the help of Paladine become the new heroes of the lance. Just be sure to change who recovers the blue crystal staff, perhaps this time Goldmoon dies while on the road because Sturm was never their to help her and Riverwind and your group now holds the staff. |

My name is Jeffrey btw, hello all. It's a huge job creating your own world with it's own background. I'm not saying it isn't worth it, it may be fun but it will take considerable time if you wish to do it right. |
