take it with a grain of salt.

nothing is confirmed save they said the frcs would be first and the cs of other worlds would be released at each year following the release of the frcs

I checked with the WizOs at one point, and these boards are by no means a confirmation of a DLCS for 4e. Whether or not there will be a 4e DLCS, nobody knows.

However, the Dragonlance Nexus will be working on a 4e conversion document, penned by Cam Banks. This way, your DL sourcebooks by MWP will still be relevant.

Cam doesn't have his own site, but he's worked on just about all the 3e Dragonlance books to date and is a part of Margaret Weis Productions. The link to the Nexus is in my sig.

So yeah, DL is in good hands.

I believe WotC made this forum to see just how many fans would actually post in a dedicated Dragonlance forum. Unfortunately for everyone involved, this forum is probably one of the least active on the 4E boards. This means that your hopes could very well have been dashed before you even knew hope existed

I expect it to pick up a bit after the movie is released... I could be wrong, though.

I think it is very difficult for people to "join the cause" after WOTC effectively wrote DL off in 3/3.5. How often on wizards.com do you see new DL info, strategy, etc.? Heck, I didn't even know this little forum existed. I searched on the front page, found D&D, Ebberon, FR, etc., but no DL.

I think WoTC licensing Dragon Lance to Margaret Weiss Productions is the best thing they could have done. Who better to steer the production than one of the original creators?

I concur. You never know what in the world is going to happen when other people suddenly think their idea is cooler than the original formula. *cough* Forgotten Realms *cough, hack* and Star Wars Expanded Universe *cough, cough*!!

I think I can reasonably speak for everyone here when I say DRAGONLANCE RULES!!!:D

Seriously though having played all three versions(1st, 2nd, and 3rd). I would be completely devastated if WofC didn't come out with a new version when the Core Books change.

Please , please, please don't make me convert 3rd to 4th the way I had to convert 2nd to 3rd after the last change(I still have nightmares and twiches thinking about it ).

I was fortunate enough to attend this year's GenCon on a press badge.

At the opening press conference, some not-so-subtle hints about 4th Edition and the Dragonlance/ 4e 2008 announcements were made.

Here's a hint of what was said to us:

"Today at 4pm there is a press conference to announce the launch of Dungeons and Dragons, 4th edition."

Take a wild guess as to what the other one was. ;)

It would be great if WotC would finally start publishing DL material. It has sucked over the last few years to see DL kicked to the curb so to speak.
Its always been my favorite setting and it would be wonderfull to see a very welll planned out extensive campain setting book made by WotC. The 3.5 campain setting book lacked good maps and material for such a fantastic setting. Its my hope that if WotC does a 4e book for DL that it would be more in the style of the old 3e Forgotten Realms campain setting book, very detalied with many maps and sites of intrest and of course a large world map insert. Maybe the could fix the racial adjustments on Minotaurs to better represent thier adjustments back in 2.0, I miss being a Minotaur Wizard. Draconians as a player race would be nice also. Hope the movie sells well, friend of mine already has it on pre order and I'm sure I'll be picking up a copy as well.

Yes, I am strange enough just to join these boards to say this:
I really, truly am hoping they make Dragonlance for 4E.

I've spent so much time hiding in my basement, I've hardly even noticed 3 and 3.5 go by....
My friends and I are still happily traipsing around Krynn with our 2E books :D

I've been out of touch with the goings on at WotC for quite some time (obviously) but the only campaigns my friends and I have ever really been interested in playing were Dragonlance, Planescape, and Ravenloft.

So, we finally crawl out from under our rock only to find all 3 have died a miserable death...
My, how time flies....

Ravenloft is now a cheap Vampire:The Masquerade knock-off, most people have no interest in Planescape whatsoever anymore (most never did, except for the video game), and Dragonlance got kicked to the curb.
Oh well.

If 4E is notably lacking in all things Kender I guess we'll all just head back under the rock with our poor decrepit 2E books.
Those poor things are barely held together with duct tape ;)

Please, PLEASE WotC, whoever there may be listening, please try to bring Dragonlance back to life.
Don't make us have to start playing our violins in your general direction.
Forgotten Realms is so mind-numbingly overrated.

Artivash,

The 3rd edition Dragonlance product line is still available, and will remain so at least until next June. There are over a dozen sourcebooks, adventures, and supplements covering everything from Knights of Solamnia to Wizards of High Sorcery, including a monster book, a book of races, a book of dragons, and two entire campaign story arcs (the classic Dragonlance campaign that starts with Dragons of Autumn, and the Age of Mortals campaign that starts with Key of Destiny.) None of these books will "go bad" even when 4th edition is released, and there's enough there to sustain a campaign for many years.

So, we may not be able to produce any more new books after January 2008, but that doesn't mean we don't have a whole lot of excellent product you can make use of from now until you choose to play in some other world.

Cheers,
Cam

After playing RPGs for 22 years i just started playing D&D just because of Dragonlance. I love the novels, so I wanted to play in the setting. I did not like D&D 3.5 very much (I played DSA - I think its "The Dark Eye" in English, which is very big in Germany). The presentation of 4th edition made me hope for a faster play, but I would prefer to get more new books from SovPress.

Just a couple of thoughts here. With the animated movie being released early next year it seems like a perfect time to continue with developing the Dragonlance campaign setting. I really hope this is done in a timely manner in order to take advantage of the 4E launch among other things. The one problem I see with DL is the fact that it has gotten a bit complex (some might say convoluted) over the years. I would hope that a jumping off point for a new CS would be Chronicles and Legends. From there perhaps they could take the story and World of Krynn in some different directions than previous creators have.

I think if enough people continue to request it, they will do DL4e. It has become one of the foundations of D&D as we know it today. Most people(gamer specifically) who only have a passing knowledge of D&D have heard of Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms. I don't see how they could avoid putting out a DL source book.

And to this, I have a simple, and singular, rebuttal.

"Qui-Gon, sir, what are midichlorians?"

The original creator can be just as silly and damaging to his work as any other person.

True, but does it fit with the new game philosophy? "D&D as we know it today" seems to be an entirely different game to 4th Ed. I'm no expert in dragonlance, but it appeared to me to be a very down to earth setting with a strong focus of emulating a historical world. That's the exactly opposite approach from 4th Ed., which is about exotic races and over the top abilities. I'd think most dragonlance fans would prefer to not have this setting adapted for the new game.

well when it does go 4E, the one thing i dont want to see is 4e versions of old campaigns.

the original cast are long dead, and the newer cast isnt much better, but id like to see new adventures, not old remakes.

Woah! Hey "an official" with ... "unofficial commentary" no less ... that comment sounded pretty "official" :P
Way to be around to promote!

Umm, anybody correct me if I am wrong, but WotC doesn't own the "Imprint" (technical term?) ... Soverign Stone does? Or did something happen to Soverign Stone? For that matter ... when did this DL:Nexus thing show up ...

The last time I looked into it I thought I discovered that the WotC had "rights" to publish DragonLance material, but Soverign Stone actually owned it.

I am so woefully distracted.

No, Dragonlance is entirely the intellectual properly of WotC. Sovereign Press (owned by Margaret) and later Margaret Weis Productions (also owned by Margaret) had the license to publish DL gaming sourcebooks, but that's all.

We became the official fan site back in January 2001. Since the Dragonlance gaming license, we became unofficial, though WotC has allowed us to continue on with our mission of keeping Dragonlance alive (so long as we don't post fan fiction).

Really? Interesting distinction. Would love to know the reasoning behind that, but regardless... DLNexus is awesome and is, IMO, the resource to check along with the dragonlanceforums.com.

That's a great link, Dragonhelm. Thanks. I have no interest in writing fanfic, but I am a lawyer and find this stuff interesting (obviously, my field is not IP). :D From a fan perspective, it's a little disappointing that some copyright owners don't like fanfic (imitation being the greatest form of flattery and all that), but I can understand wanting to maintain the integrity of their work and avoid having the value diminished. It would be interesting to see if there have been any studies trying to quantify the effect (if any) of fanfic on those factors. Anyway...

I'm of mixed feelings as to whether DL is given a campaign setting in 4E. I initially hated the AoM but have slowly grow to enjoy it and am looking forward to playing or running the KoD->PoC campaign. Nonetheless, someone on the DLforums noted that it's turned into a post-post-post-apocalytic setting. Having another Krynn-shattering event would be getting pretty darned silly (it already is a little bit, IMO), and I have NO idea how I could possibly begin to introduce players unfamiliar with Dragonlance (yes, there are a lot of them). Heck, DL got a ton of love from the 3.5 license and MWP, the so called Golden Age, anything that follows is likely to be disappointing.

Regardless of what happens, I'm looking forward to the conversion docs. The Whitestone Council is nothing short of awesome for all they've done for the setting.
