Wow! I think you covered every possible Dragonlance archetype in the book! ![]() I think, out of your list, some would be subraces, some paragon paths, and some themes. Now, in my case, I would be looking at the Margaret Weis Productions materials as inspiration. For the Legion of Steel, I think I'd have a Steel Legionnaire theme with the following paragon paths requiring Steel Legionnaire: Legion Warrior, Legion Mystic, Legion Sorcerer, Legion Scout. Although truthfully, I'm tempted to do Steel Legionnaire and call it a day. For the Wizards of High Sorcery, I would have a WoHS theme, with paragon paths to exemplify things such as griffon wizards, winternorns, robe-specific specialties, Kingfisher, and so on. For the Knights of Solamnia, I'm debating on whether to go with a KoS theme and then paragon paths per order, or a theme per order starting early on. There is the progression from Crown to Sword to Rose, but that can be roleplayed. I'll be glad when I'm done with school so I can tinker (heh!) with this stuff some more. Really, I've been excited by the development of themes, particularly in Neverwinter. I think that should be our template. |
| #5mysticpizzaSep 19, 2011 18:26:03 | Yah! I was late! I just wrote down a bunch of idea's. Subraces, themes, backgrounds are really just ways to customize your character more. I like how they presented subraces in NWCS. It gives you the "flavour"..without messing with the "crunch"the math/and mechanics character creation. In the past they just would have made 2 seperate races for ea with varying success. Some races are better designed an if you pick a MM race no race feat support. Or they'd paint the goliath into the half Giant. Since 4e is nothing wargame w/fantasy roleplay. I for optimization. 2 weeks ago, created a NW party. It went like this. 1)shield dwarf knight, 2)wildelf scout, 3)vyrloka thief,4) drow hunter,5) genasi warlord. I wanted to incorporate NWCS themes so it went 1)heir of delzoun, 2)spellscared harbringer,3) harper agent, 4)Bre D'aerthe spy, 5) nothing. I picked .h.o.d for Dwarf. Cool though there all history, knowledge, dungeering checs. For my STR?CON knight..who would get better intimadate or Diplomacy CHA. And h.o.d. can compete w guardian. Next s.s.h./h.a just had cool little sided affects so i latter changed it to outlaw. daze. And B.D.S. levatate cool! Like in the books. leavtate 1/en with limit's. Out of combat fine but durning the only avantage is higher ground. But my ch. is a sniper build. He would probally get more use out of hiding and cover. And I'd probally make myself a target!! So I just when with the functional, guardian, outlaw, knight hospiler. Themes are still pretty new idea and they vary. In the past you wanted a theme you rolplayed it , told your dm, or manipulated outside forces to do it. To me these "theme's are just another power!" |
| #6mysticpizzaSep 19, 2011 18:42:02 | Yah i got most of them form DL 3.5 cs/and d20 races of asalon. pdf.Thank God!!! Since wargaming/and fantasy rollplaying in d&d 4e are twosides of the same coin. You could pick a theme w/ no tactical advantage. Then there second choices and a flop for designers. If I wanta talk to Jarlaxle head of the drow mercenary group. I can rollplay that hell i allready got a drow. So those are just some experiance w/ themes. |
| #7mysticpizzaSep 19, 2011 18:50:07 | Dragonhelm, i like your ideas! I familiar w/ paragon paths, and epic destiny's. Theoretically. I actually haven't played that far yet!!! I do like character/party creation. I don't have a regular group just a encounters, and the rest was by myself. I ran all 5 ch's an dmed. Time consuming!!! |
