I am new to DC. Played it with my son last night for the first time and loved it - but need some rule clarification. Just as I was about to smash his orc cleric with my ogre he played his savage demise order, claiming that the "destroy this creature" instruction took me out (thereby winning the game!). My interpretation is that it is a death throe action and so destroys the creature who plays it, whilst damaging the one who it is played against. I don't begrudge him the win - it was a great game. But it would have been nice to keep playing for a bit longer. So who is right?

You are correct. "This creature" is refering to the creature that took the action (in this case, immediate action)
