10 Actions In One Round?!

So one person suggested this idea to me and I'm pretty sure it can't happen, but i'm not 100% sure.

Considering that a control spell would require the controller to use their action to cause the controlled creature to move.

Would a creature controlled by 10 people be able to execute 10 actions in one round? Basically the idea was a super powerful creature moving in, attacking like say 4 times to KO a player, then moving attacking 4 times to KO another player then moving and attacking with the last 2 actions to another player.

It sounds extremely broken. And sounds like DM metagaming in a bad way...lol

Any feedback on that?

When I heard one of my players (who might dm in the future) suggest this, it made be very worried about giving away my DM role, especially because I had no idea how to rule on that.

(Shrugs) ANYTHING is possible if you're the DM....RAW I don't think so - but I guess I'd have to read the actual parts they're intending to abuse. RAI? I seriously doubt it.

True, but they have a certain degree of respect for my knowledge of the rules because I'm the one who has DM'd the longest. I'm pretty sure that exploiting a rule like that, for the purpose of making a griefworthy encounter for the players, is a horrible decision as a dm, but I would prefer if I could deter him by citing the RAW or RAI.

He is referencing the fact that control spells, allow you to command someone to do X using your own action. So he is extrapolating that to a mass control situation where 10 people are controlling one creature and using their actions to cause that creature to act.

How are 10 people controlling the same person?

RAI I think the controller's actions uses up the controlled's action for the round.

What ability or spell are you referring to?

I think it's the Dominate spells. The spell description states that "You can use your action to take total and precise control of the target. Until the end of your next turn, the creature takes only the actions you choose." PHB 235. This clearly (to me) says that the creature must still use its own action, but the spellcaster must also use his action to precisely control the creature.

Please stop ruining the feel of the fluffiness and light touch of the 5e rules set

The controlled creature still only gets an action, move, possible bonus action and possible reaction. I think the DM's intepretation isn't accurate. Want to test it? Ask the DM if a group of PCs capable of using the aforementioned Dominate spell(s) are allowed to do the same with a hasted fighter in their group?  I'm wagering the answer is no.

10 guys (Mind Flayers, for flavor) all dominating one pawn?  That setup sounds like a recipe for the Mind Flayers to be rolling contested CHR checks against each other; each dominate would break the previous one.

It also sounds like the anti-Warlord 'nightmare scenario'.

Thank you, I will inform him. I was suspecting it was something like that, b/c a round is techinically 6 seconds, so i doubted a creature could somehow attack and move 10x as fast just b/c it was being controlled by 10 people.

Also tell him not to do this because - even were it RAW legal - it simply wouldn't be FUN. And if D&D isn't fun......

This discussion reminds me of the Beholder Mage.

If someone were to take 10 actions in a single round I think after the 4th or 5th I'd start adding levels of exhaustion for each additional action taken, but that's assuming you could even get to that part.  10 creatures dominating the mind of a single creature would either have a contest of wills between themselves to see which one dominated the person or the single target's mind would be ripped a part and he'd just be catatonic at that point.

But rules as written I don't believe this is possible.  Dominate person reads like it eats your action to take precise control, but that doesn't actually cause the dominated creature to act until his own turn.

This game is basically designed with the caveat that if a rule loophole is found that breaks or ruins the game the DM can easily fix it by saying "That doesn't make sense" or "There was an unforeseen consequence of attempting to use Simulacrum and Wish to make a thousand of you, you've torn a hole in the fabric of reality and the Simulacrums were all given free will and neither you nor any of the Simulacrums can ever cast Wish again!".  It's scary if your DM is the one looking for loopholes.  You're basically all sitting down at the table to play out his sadist fantasies.

However, I now have a weapon to use against my Simulacri-chaining Wizards.
