So I know not all DMs out there like giving out magic items, but when players lack magic weapons it can make fights with devils, dragons, golems, and more a lot tougher. I created some lower-than-a-+1-weapon-leveled magic items on my blog for just this purpose. Take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Hey, Jimbro, off-topic, but what ever became of your Siege Engines? Did you ever price them out?

My first thoughts are to remove the Radiant, Psychic, and Necrotic effects, since those are rare and dangerous types of damage. They're meant to feel rare and dangerous.

I understand what you're saying, but would you, as a bard, feel good knowing that a Fighter, for a minute per day, could deal more psychic damage than you could? It makes them feel less special.

I wouldn't give a crap. Niche protection is not needed to make a character unique, and damage types are one of the nichiest niches around. If you meet a monster that takes extra damage from psychic energy, you're happy if more people can deal that damage, not upset.

Additionally, damage spells tend to have powerful secondary effects. Vicious mockery is handing out disadvantage every round - that's it's draw, not the piddly damage it does.

It goes hand-in-hand, really. Even if the damage isn't that impressive, it's damage that's remarkably difficult to come by.

... which doesn't matter when doing that damage type has no appreciable benefits. I honestly don't think that any player is going to go "wow, this is awesome, I've always wanted to do psychic damage like a bard, and now I have this weapon!". They'll think it's nifty that their weapon can do something cool, and it will probably never come up in any meaningful way. Hell, even having a force weapon, which is the single least resisted/immuned damage type in the game isn't going to be that big a deal. It will be a nifty magic item and it will come up once or twice during any campaign that doesn't explicitly centre around ghost slaying. And the wizard won't care that someone has it.
