| #1Jedric0202Dec 21, 2014 11:30:08 | I'm in the process of designing a new campaign world that has a bit more sword-and-sorcery than a traditional heroic fantasy, without being completely sword-and-sorcery. Basically, I want magic to be mysterious and strange and not as common as the default setting assumes it to be. Thus, I was looking to trim some magic from certain classes while keeping the flavor.
The first class to go under the microscope is the ranger. At least in my group, most of the people I know decide to play a ranger so that they can 1) act as the wilderness expert, 2) sneak adequately, and 3) be a badass with bow and blade; spells are really more of an afterthought. In looking to create a more Aragorn/Legolas feel, I am thinking of removing the Ranger class entirely and making it a sub-class of the fighter.
The level progression would look like:
3rd - Stealth proficiency, Favored Enemy (7th & 15th), Natural Explorer (7th & 10th) 7th - Land's Stride 10th - Hide in Plain Sight 15th - Vanish 18th - Feral Senses
I realize you don't get any of the damage boosting of the Hunter or the...well, whatever the Beastmaster offers, but I believe the additional attacks you get should offset that. Thoughts? |

If you wish, you can move the ranger subclasses over to the fighter. You won't lose damage bc the fighters stuff makes up for it. |

I have a Wood Elf Rogue with Expertise in Stealth, Survival, and Perception. He also has the Assassin subclass, the Skulker feat, and the Sharpshooter feat. He makes for a great wilderness commando. |
