| #1tehsquirrelyNov 28, 2014 21:15:31 | So I have an idea for an alternative initiative based partly on the DMG's speed factor init system and a card system based on the game Citadels. The idea would be starting with the dm, every player takes and trashes a playing card from 1-10. Each card represents your initiative "roll" plus your speed/dex modifiers, however every card would also have an ancilliary effect. I haven't quite nailed these down yet because they have to work for a game wherein most of the other people drawing cards are going to be your allies. I know I want 5 to be "you become the first player to draw and trash cards, this card can't be trashed by the first player to pick a card." I'm thinking some effects might be like on 9 "instead of taking your action now you can hold your action and take your turn after any other player's turn." 10 could be something like "choose 1 enemy, that enemy has disadvantage on all attacks against you, but all other enemies have advantage on attacks against you. This card doesn't work on 'solo' monsters." 1 might be something like "If you took damage this round you have advantage on attack rolls against any enemy who damaged you, or they have disadvantage on saving throws vs you (your choice). You may choose to do average damage +2 instead of rolling." 7 might be something like "instead of taking the actions you declared this round you may disengage as your action, and use dodge as a bonus action."
The cards might have to have seperate effects for players and monsters, but this is a rough idea at this point and I want to get some input on what people think. |
