There are several monsters and spells where planes (of some kind) would need to exists, or else would require some other explanation.

As you are new, I would 'import' the planes from the standard game world cosmology, which is in the DMG.

I didn't notice you posted twice and this thread already had responses.  So here is my reply fromt the other thread:

"No, they are not.  I ran a DnD campaign that only involved on world.  I did create locations for fiends, gods, etc.  but is was all centered on the world (similar to greek mythology).  Now, there are certain spells or fluff text that may make reference to other planes, so will need to revise those - but that doesn't change how the game is played."

Advice for DMing... Never build plans that require things to go a certain way unless you're very clever about making railroading subtle. That and always expect that the players will always (Either intentionally or inadvertently) foil your carefully laid-out plots and have different contingencies for when that occurs. That or learn the art of half-assing entertaining adventures. Both will help.

I always avoid including the plains. I find the whole setting boring and cliche. I make sure that my players understand that the setting they are playing in is unique, and does not contain any of the standard DnD locations. If I want some sort of alternate dimension, I make up my own.

you can just play fine without planes no problem.

Just think of an explination for fiends, celestial elemental creature from where are they native?

Officially, Teleportation, summoning spell use other plane to describe the spell (most teleportation spell make the party travel trought the astral plane (so spell throught the shadow plane) Summoning summon monster from other planes etc... Banishment send monster to a different plane. Those spell are easy to reflavor without plane. Teleport you simply teleport to your location, summoning you simply summon the creature, banishment, you send him in a different phase/dimension and the creatue come back.

The spell that might cause more problem are spell allowing you to travel to other plane (Gate, Plane Shift, Demiplane etc...) you can simply tell your player that other plane do not exist so those spell do not exist neither, or you should have time to create plane by the time your player reach that level of power.
