I am building a random-dungeon generator tool to assist me in quickly whipping up site-based adventures.

One of the elements I'm including is a list of "dungeon features" - thus far including the magic fountain, underground city, portal-to-another-dungeon, and others.  I'm looking for a list of popular tropes for things-in-dungeons.

Any ideas?

Whats wrong with the random dungeon generator in the DMG?

It works on a very different principle than I am planning.  My generator won't provide a layout or specific details, but rather give a random seed that I can then turn into a site-based adventure.

Another great resource is Goodman Games' Dungeon Alphabet:

I use it just about every adventure. It’s filled with old-school goodness.

  • Magic Thrones
  • Magic Altars
  • Magic Pools
  • Crevasses and other breaks in the dungeon that may or may not be bridged
  • A room full of mushrooms
