convert and DM - Drow & Giant series I want to update some old classic modules of D&D to the new D&D5 rules. Looking at both update of the rules and updating the STYLE of adventire for more modern story style of games like FATE. My questions for help and ideas are: - any ideas for updating or making more sense or plots of these modules. - any head's up on needs to watch for with the new rules or monsters that are in 5th edition. - and MOSTLY help on giving teasers to CONNECT modules for Giants mixed with Lloth/Drow stuff... and ALL leading up with CONNECTIONS to the early Lost City adventure. For example, I was considering figuring out a connection for "the giant Zargon" in Lost City to the Giants in Against the Giant.... not sure how yet. THE LOST CITY The adventure’s main villain is Zargon, a giant one-eyed monster and his minions. The module is focused in a double pyramid, including ancient city within. Coincidentally, I was just looking at the first giant module last night to get an estimate of how it would convert.

The main issue I see is that the original module has an incredible numbers of giants in the encounters.  In the main throne room for the hill giant Jarl, there are 21 hill giants, plus a cloud giant and the jarl.  Even if you scale the hill giant warriors back to about 10, this is still going to clock in at around a 12th  level 5e encounter, if not more.  One regular hill giant in 5e is CR 5, which means that one is a challenge for 4 5th level characters.  So, what level to fight 10 or more of them at the same time?   For that matter, what level for the original compliment?  That's the issue.

The original module was rated for 8 -9 9th level characters.  Trying to scale it down to 4 to 6 5e characters, while still keeping some realism in the story is difficult, but I don't see walking into the main banquet hall of the giant leader and there only being 3 giants.  For story purposes, there realistically is going to be 10 to 20 of them there eating, along with the leader and his guests.

Another option would be to look at the updated modules for Giants that Chris Perkins did for 4e in Dungeon Magazine. His were designed for paragon tier, and I thought they were quite good at staying true to the original while being updated for the then current edition.

Love this idea.

We need more conversions of classic adventures in my opinion. I look forward to seeing what people come up with.
