| #1ThatOtherGuyDec 18, 2014 22:28:20 | Hello! 5E is awesome, and I want to convert my homebrew setting content to it, and I want to make sure that I'm doing it right sot that it makes sense in how the new rules work. Thus far I'm unsure. lol. In previous iterations of 3.X, natural attacks had their own rules which were separate from iteratives, and were fluid and accessible for use for any character that simply had the attacks. Now iterative attacks are Extra Attack and their more obscure forms, and natural attacks have become Multiattack from the MM, yes? Because I'm unsure, the wording for the Bite and Claw attacks are quite possibly redundant and sound confusing to me already.
I'm also wondering about the Savage Sub's damage scaling. I want it to kind of force the PC into using natural attacks, and have them at the same time scale as well as weapon damage, but not overdo it. How far am I from that where it stands now?
This race is a sort of angelic cousin of the Manticore, Sphinx and Chimera. They are Apex predators in all ways, and while they will eat a man without remorse, by the commands of their humble goddess they give mercy to those weak.
I have writeups upon writeups of lore about these creatures and their societies, but I'm really just wondering about scaling power and balance while staying true to the concept. Thanks so much for any input in advance.
Here it is.

Although, I think the Multiattack should have some sort of stipulation or take-away so you don't end up playing a Wizard that mauls people. That's a bit game-imbalancing. |
| #3ThatOtherGuyDec 18, 2014 23:38:39 | I think that if they went full caster with the savage subrace option, then they would be dealing suboptimal damage most of the time. This is because they would be playing with a stat allocation designed for a wizard. I mean, they are either multiattacking or casting a spell on the turn, and at higher levels, there is no inherent 'these natural attacks can be used to overcome damage reduction magic' equivalent clauses, which would make them seek a way to make them such, spending their spell resources if they are a wizard. They would have to spend a good amount of their spells in order to become as efficient in combat dpr-wise, and including the plausible rounds spent on using said spells to buff, I think it would balance out. In a rough sense.
What else could be done inside the text of the subrace?
Thanks for your reply by the way, and sorry if any of my post sounds defensive or antagonistic, I don't mean any of it in that way at all, I'm just looking at things I can see and factoring in action economy trade-offs. That being said, my mastery of this editions' rules are not as concrete as I would like them to be. I'm definitely going to be playtesting.
Thanks again! |

And if these are angelic beasts, should they be Celestials and speak Celestial? |
