Converting Spells to Newer Versions

I have an old site that I created some time ago that was dedicated to AD&D 3.5.  The site had a large collection of version 3.5 spells that I had collected over the years. I recently decided to bring the site up to date, but I've been away from D&D for awhile now and am not familiar with the latest rules and conversion.

I'd love to create a computer script that converts my 3.5 spells over to 4.0, and again over to 5th edition (so, I can give the user the option of choosing which edition to use). However, I wanted to get some feedback on how complicated this would be...

For example, the information for the 3.5 edition of the Chain Lightning spell is below...

  • Level: 6
  • School: Evocation
  • Range: Range
  • Duration: Instantaneous
  • Area of Effect: Special
  • Components: V, S, M
  • Casting Time: 5
  • Saving Throw: -
  •
  • The spell description....

Some general questions:

What items have drastically changed in the game since I've played (relating to spells)?

Is casting time handled the same?

The same saving throw system?

I'm assuming the schools of magic are still the same (with variations depending on worlds, like "wild magic" and "shadow magic" schools)?

The most difficult item to change would be the description, but I can figure that out later.
