He would either still be still in the millitary and ordered to help the adventuring party, or he retired from millitary service a few years back and has taken up adventuring. I would have to talk with the DM to firm up a solid background, but I'd like to have a few ideas to pitch rather than push the work on him.
With backgrounds in 5th edition taking a more important role, I'm looking for suggestions. It seems like the basic template is each background gives the following: -Proficiency in two skills. -Possibly proficiency in tools. -Starting Equipment -Some sort of unique feature. A unique ability or network of contacts.
I'm not so sure the basic soldier background fits for a wizard, with its proficiency in Athletics and Intimidation. Hermit and Sage don't seem to fit the concept either. So that leads me to my question;
If this were your table, what background benefits would you give a millitary war wizard? Which skills would make sense? Martial training or proficiencies in light or medium armor (or would that be too much)? Social contacts? Looking for ideas to pitch to my DM. |

Keep in mind that at the beginning of the Background section of the book it basically says that you can mix and match in whatever way fits your character. |
