The Draconic bloodline allows the sorcerer affinity with a certain element, Acid/Lightning/Fire/Poison/Cold

Since some of these only have avery limited amount of spells associated with them, it only makes some of these elements an attractive choice.

Would it be acceptable to replace elemental affinity feat with the ability to change (maybe for SP?) a spells elemental type to their ancestral type. So for example a fireball could become a poison/ice/ ... etc ball.

Wouldn't this be overpowered?

Also wouldn't the additional effect some spells have be a pain to transfer to another elemental type, like a fireball igniting flammable material.

Changing the damage type of a spell seems very metamagic to me.   Not being able to twin a spell (and you can't twin fireball anyway) pays for any overpoweredness the flexibility gives you.

I think the need for this type of thing is temporary.  Fire is (as always) very good.  After PotA, cold is good.  Given that the next AP is going to be an underdark/demon based, it seems likely that there will be a bunch of new poison and acid spells, which will mean that the lightning focused dragon bloodline sorcerers will be the only ones left in the doghouse (and PotA gave them some love too).  Once the demon AP is out, it would be simpler to give lightning focused dragon bloodline sorcerers affinity for lightning and thunder spells (until the giant themed AP after that, which likely will give us some new lightning spells and maybe raise cold to very good).
