Hello!

I Had an inclination to adding the Vryloka Race from 4e to the race pool for a game im running based loosely on Legacy of Kain. Not sure if this is necessarily the right place to go, but the homebrew forum looked like it was still largely 4e only so i thought id get your opinions. I bite off more than i can chew sometimes so im looking for constructive feedback and a little balancing help. Thank You!

Damphyr

Fluff about the race based on the setting.

Vryloka Variant

The vryloka are a race of Damphyr who, by breeding only with other damphyr, have been able to master a greater degree of their Vampire Heritage without sacrificing their will to their baser impulses. There is a down side, with this new power comes increased sensitivity to light and holy magics. The urge to feed is also stronger in the Vryloka, a direct result of tapping into their undead abilities for generations.

Damphyr Traits

Damphyr

Age -  Double Human norm. Same maturity rate up till the date they were turned, then roughly ½ the human rate.

Alignment – Any, but do to vampiric taint and social stigma, they tend toward the neutral or evil moralities.

Size - medium

Speed 30

Darkvision

 Ability Score increases

+1 Dex, +1 Cha

Blood Drinker – You are able to make a bite attack. Treat it as a 1d6+dex mod Melee attack. Use Dex for this attack with proficiency. In addition if you hit with this attack you can expend a Hit Die. Add the targets con mod to the HP gained from this attack. It cannot be used again until you have taken a short rest.

Resistance to poison.

Languages – Common and one other of your choice.

Vryloka Racial Variant

Ability Score Increases

additional +1 Cha or Dex.

Increase speed by 5 feet

Resistance to Necrotic

At level 3 you gain a 2nd level warlock spell. At level 5 you gain Darkness usable once per day.

Greater Thirst – Your Blood Drinker Racial attack now deals 2d6 + Dex piercing damage. If you do not use this ability at least once every 24 hours you become weak to Holy damage and Light. You can not regain HP again until you either use the Blood Drinker racial or an Ally expends a hit die. You gain life equal to the roll plus the donators Con Mod. If you have the Spell Casting ability this also renews a single Spell slot per extended rest.

Daywalker Variant

You lose your resistance to poison and Darkvision, but gain a Feat. (needs work, this is basically Human Variant +blood drinker.)

I love the Legacy of Kain games. Bad or good always felt the setting had great potential for a roleplay game.

Seems kind of under-powered honestly.  The bite attack will generally not be used because weapon attacks are better, and the ability modifiers are too low.  It should be +2 to one ability and +1 to another.  I would also recommend something like a bonus to Athletics and Acrobatics and possibly a movement speed buff.  It definitely needs more to feel like an appealing option

I was taking the lead from the Dwarf variant where the extra Ability increase is given with the variants, but it can easily be Dex +2 CHa+1.

What about a 2d6 Bite attack with out mod, similar to the Dragons Breath racial. Vryloka Version can remain as is i think.

The Damphyr base was supposed to be middle of the road. Vryloka would give an extra 5 feet (they were speed 7 in 4e) as part of taking the variant, at the cost of further "Vamping" themself.

Double Proficiency for Acrobatics and your choice of Stealth or Deception. (one Dex option, one Cha Option to flavor)

Daywalker is harder for me to pin down. Its obviously more like Blade, but i think that was pretty well covered by Damphyr base options. Still, i wanted to give a second variant to choose from.

If not Daywalker, any suggestions there?

Thank you for the help so far!

@arawn76 - Probably my favorite game series, very sad they didnt continue it past Defiance.
