I am having a concern with the cleric ability of Devine Intervention. If it fails you can't attempt again until a long rest, but it does not say you cannot attempt the same request. So say you had someone die and you did not have the diamond dust to revive. Can you simply keep requesting your deities help with a rez spell? If so you just need to repeat it until you make the percentage roll. There is a rez for a character up to 200 years past his/her death (true resurection).

 

So I guess I am asking other DMs, are you limiting this some how or how are you running this? One roll only on the same request for help? two? 10?...I realize as a DM you can simply say it fails and you know it will not succeed, but I kind of want to be fair.

 

I also thought cause it was worded as "when your need is great" that maybe it is a combat thing, but really death of a friend/comrade is a great need in some people's eye.

If I was a god and I'd said no to my cleric' s request and he asked again a while later?

Seriously, I wouldn't stop the player from making the same request again. I would however rule that requests after the first have no chance of being answered, never mind granted.

Does the deity have Perseverance among the virtues he wishes to cultivate among his flock?

If so, then He might wait until 1d4+2 requests have been made - as long as the requester isn't getting increasingly hysterical in the meanwhile.

 

The deity might equally say on the second request, "I have a plan for him and you, you must be apart to achieve its fruition."

I would not limit repeat requests. I would explore the situations that create great need. 

 

Something you want is not necessarily a great need. Even something you need isn't necessarily greatly needed. I would be looking at fairly desperate circumstances. In fact, if the circumstances were extreme, like impending TPK or last man standing, I would dispense with the roll and simply grant the intervention.
