Would you allow a dexterity based fighter (battle master) multi classing to paladin, without meeting the required 13 str (the character has a charisma of 15)?

My reason for allowing this is story based: The character drank of a deity’s fountain in an ancient temple, and she is now feeling inspired and possibly imbued with the power of that god.

Plus I my view a fighter as a fighter… I wouldn’t let a thief do the same.

Am I missing some game balance eroding detail(s)?

If you want to make an exception based on story events, why not ? I dont think a dex fighter would even notice if you increased strength to 13 even.

Seems like a case where you can screw the rules without any doubts. And multiclassing is an optional rule, too, so there isn't as much balancing involved as you might think.

The paladin requires Str 13? That's so weird.

Go for it

Go for it

Even better when it is story based.

Besides multicasting has its own downside (you get extra attack later)

Sounds fine to me

Sounds fine to me.

Got a cool story based reason, and I very much doubt a Fighter/Paladin is going to gamebreakingly overpowerful.

Dex based Paladin is very good way of doing a reinterpreation of the 4E Avenger.

I think the minimum ability score prerequisites are a way of stopping (or discouraging) builds that involve starting or briefly diping into a class that you have no interest of progressing or being related to your character.

Thank you for the comments (and support).

I’m glad my DM-intuition hasn’t gone sour over the years.

(Must say that I’m generally satisfied with the multi classing rules – specially the dipping restraint and the minimum of skills gained).
