I completed 7 Tier 1 (1-4) hoard treasure rolls.  I rolled rather poorly, slightly below average on nearly every category, but not abysmally so.   Since the work of randomly generating this took me some time , i have added it all together for ease of use if anyone else wants to borrow it.   I rolled no pernament magic items however.

From what i can determine-other than individual treasure rolls this is what a party of four adventures should get between levels 1 to 4.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Total of 7 Tier 1 hoard treasure rolls

Money---------

Cp: 13800.    SP : 6500,  GP: 530

Gems and art objects----------

*Eighteen 50gp gems. Bloodstone(50gp).   Carnelian (50gp).  Chryoprase (50gp). Moonstone (50gp).  6 Yellow quartz. 8 Sardonyx.  Total value (900 gold)
*10- 25 Gp art items.  {2 gold rings set with bloodstones.  2 Silver necklace with a gemstone pendant, brass mug with jade inlay,  2 large gold bracelet.  Carved ivory statuette.  Bronze  crown. silk robe with gold emboidery}  Total value (250 gold)
*Seven 10 Gp gems.  {5 azurite, 2 blue quartz}  Total value (70 gold)

magic items----------

Potions:  8 Potions of healing.   1 potion of fire breath.   1 Philter of love.
Scrolls:  Scroll of protection (beasts),  2 spell scrolls (cantrip), 2 spell scroll (1st), 1 spell scroll (2nd),  2 spell scrolls (3rd)
MIsc: Dust of disappearance

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The money looks about right to me.  My experience was that this was the most cumbersome treasure generation of any edition.  Not to mention i now have to bury that treasure through my adventures in those levels on my own since the rules only note that its what they will earn over the whole tier.  I feel like there is way too much variation in what u can earn in magic items  and gems.  Though unlikely you can roll the pcs a fifth level scroll, several pernament magic items etc at level 1.  I am debating about rerolling one of the 3rd level scrolls on Magic item table B, or just providing one pernament item from that list.

What do you guys think , keeping in mind i rolled POORLY, about how this treasure looks for levels 1 to 4.

And feel free to use the numbers generated for your adventures if it saves you the trouble.

I think that the treasure tables are spot on for what I like to hand out in the course of a campaign.

I actually rolled up the entire "typical" camapaign set of rolls, which yes is quite cumbersome to do all at once, and made a list similar to the one you have here, and it came out with a very Goldilocks feel to it: not too much, not too little.

Ways to deal with the cumbersome tables (which honestly aren't any worse than AD&D or 3.5 random tables, and see actually more sensible and streamlined than both to me): you can use this wonderful generator made by Leugren (hope I spelled the screen name right), and you can break up the rolling by waiting until you are sure that you want to place a treasure hoard in a particular place so that you are only rolling the one at a time - which is especially helpful if you are embracing this edition's encouragement to place however much treasure as you see fit.

I will NEVER roll up an entire tier or campaigns worth of treasure before having written up the various adventures.

I went through the process of rolling treasures manually exactly twice before I got exasperated and created my own treasure generator.  The link is in my sig, though @AaronOfBarbaria included it in his post above.

My generator has a couple of nifty features which the DMG tables lack:

  • Where a "+x Weapon" is indicated in the table, my generator will randomly select a weapon for you.
  • Where a "+x Ammunition" is indicated in the table, my generator will randomly select a type of ammunition for you.
  • Where a "Spell scroll (x level)" is indicated in the table, my generator will randomly select a spell of the appropriate level for you.
  • When an "Ring of resistance", "Potion of resistance", or "Armor of resistance" is indicated, my generator will randomly select a damage type for you.
  • In general, where a table indicates a choice for you to make between two or more items (e.g. "Horn of Valhala (silver or brass)"), my generator will make the choice for you.

The best thing about it, imho, is that you can just keep clicking the button until you get a result which appeals to you.  If there are any other DMG tables which people would like to see automated, let me know.

Yeah, I went into your sheet and figured it out, but you had already made the correction here.

The numbers don't 'feel' right (4 perm items, but only 8-9 consumables....)  but the spreadsheet seems spot on.

Here are the threads from enworld:

Coin guy doesn't give much info.  Magic guy made some assumptions for simplicity that throws off his numbers, at least for the early levels.

So, doing more digging...

How are you determining % of perm items in a table.  Some items seem to be a bit of a grey area ( +x ammunition, Elemental Gem, javelin of lightning, etc)  IOW are you only counting potions and scrolls as consumable, or any item that gets used up.

EIther way, you may want to recheck your percentages for tables B and C, I am not sure how you got to 41% and 27% for those tables.  I get them closer to 20% and 10-15%, depending on how you catagorize things like Bead of Force.
