Alright, I'm going to be running 5e, and I need a tool for making maps, both dungeon and overland. What suggestions do you have? I need a digital tool because I'm going to be using Realm Works for campaign management.
Hexographer is the easiest to use and with some experience produces very pretty maps too.
From my homebrew;
I'll second hexographer. I've tried just about everything out there, campaign cartographer, dundjinni, fractal mapper, plus lots of others I don't remember. Hexographer is by far the easiest to use, most of these others have a huge learning curve, hexagrapher you can pretty much just fire it up and start plugging away. They also make a similar program for mapping dungeons that uses the exact same interface.
I'll check out hexographer. I'm ashamed to admit I'd forgotten about it; I even backed his kickstarter for Cityographer. Thanks, guys.

I don't want to hijack the thread - but how do you like Realm Works? How does it compare to Obsidian Portal (if you ever used that).

Those of you that use hexographer, one issue I had was that I kept getting odd looking maps because I could never make like a squarish area, is it possible to split the color on a hex so it's like half blue and half green for a shoreline?

CC3 has a learning curve, but after watching all the tutorial videos they link to on youtube I was flying and able to make maps like this.
