Although I have been searching a lot about this , I have not come across any specific answer...I have this sorcerer in my group who considers taking up some Divination school spells. Is there any requirement for a Deity for him to pick up Divination spells like it is for Divine spells or is it totaly irrelevant?I know the nature of Divination School but I am really not sure if a character that has no Deity at all,can pick any of the Divination school Spells. The logic behind my question is that Divination is about insight and understanding of past-magic etc. ,but besides a char that has spend years studying stuff like this , how can someone pick up those spells without any past experiance or any Divine help? ?

Deity totally doesn't matter. If it's on the list, he can grab it.

I think you're reading "divination" (root: the verb "to divine", from Latin divino) and "divine magic" (root: Latin divus) and confusing them as related. They're not (although some of the better divination spell are available to clerics; it's one of their class strengths. Noteworthy, divination is among the sorcerer's weaknesses.).

Oh good! Then he can pick any spell from those that refer to Wiz/Sorc besides any other that comes into the story , as long as those spells are relevant to his inner power, which in this case is a Dark Shadowy presence in him so e.g it is illogical to cast a Light spell or any spell that provide a source of light....

Thanks a lot for the response!

Well  , he chose to have his inner power come from the soul of a necro that was imbued in him when he was born , but after 2-3 lvl he mentioned he has a major bloodline tree to choose some special features etc.I am really lost in this sorcerer stuff and I really never liked them anyways so I have not take the time to learn those things.Thats why I am lost as to what spells he can pick up.As a DM that runs his own story , I really do not like to have people who only want to be OP and never get a restriction or some flaws , thats why I mentioned the part of him having light-source spells as a shadoy powered sorcerer is not logical....Still I am really not sure if he can have a soul in him to get his sourcerer powers and still have a bloodline AND get every spell from the sorcerer list   :s

Um...wait, so he's using a custom

archetype for his sorcerer?

First, the DM should probably review this first and approve. The player definitely can't dictate to you that they're house ruling options.

Second, sorcerer archetypes don't give access to spells, by default. They still only have access to the Sorcerer spell list, so you shouldn't have to review and approve any other spells.

I think it's most likely that the player in question is simply using the ensouled by a necromancer thing as flavor only backstory. Necromancers deal in death, not darkness, so light based spells are fine. Garret, you should probably either read the sorceror rules, or trust your player to do so. Either way, he or she doesn't sound like they are doing anything suspect.
