Basically do darkvision creatures ever use additional lighting (beyond cookfires) for vision? |

In 5e, if a creature with darkvision looks into darkness, it treats it as dim light. Even though it doesn't hinder attack roles, it makes it harder to actual see things (disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks), so you have to treat it as if it would be dusk/dawn to the darkvision people and in grey shades, additionally. Since it would really, really suck to squinch your eyes every time, while everything is colorless, you would bring some light if you were them, right? ;)
Of course since they do have darkvision, they don't need great or many light sources and maybe they're only lighting up the rooms, since they don't need to see that well in the corridors. This is how I do it, most of the time, the rooms are moderately lightened (so that everything is at least in dim light, plus the bright light at the light sources themselves) and only the intersections have additional light sources. It's good enough to find your way in your home dungeon safely. |
