I'm running my players through a succession of classic modules and in the not too distant future we'll be playing "Earthshaker!". It's a fun module and I'm sure the players will enjoy it, but it's likely to be the final adventure of the campaign, so I was thinking of kicking things up a notch.
My first idea was to have the Tarrasque show up so the players can fight it using Earthshaker. So I guess I'm wondering (a) does that even make sense - is it going to be a reasonably challenging fight, and (b) how to handle that sort of fight logistically.
My biggest concern is that the combat will end up being nothing more than Earthshaker and the Tarrasque facing each other trading attacks until one of them falls down. Sort of boring.
I should mention that although these are classic adventures, I'm running them with 5e rules. Anyone have any thoughts on ways to make that fight fun and epic the way it should be? |

Using Pacific Rim as a source of inspiration, you could say the Tarrasque is one of many to follow unless the aperture is sealed from within. Also, the aperture is at the bottom of the ocean. The goal then goes from a slugfest to having the players figure out how to get the monster to follow them to the aperture and forcing it back in.
There are plenty other robot vs kaiju movies and animated shows to draw inspiration from with a little research.
