#1 cjblaney0 Jun 02, 2015 12:10:10	Hey all, Had a question and also wanted to ask your advice as I'm a relatively new DM.   I was playing with the idea of printing out dungeon maps from Princes of the Apocalypse, and then cutting them into sections to basically make map tiles, and as the team enters new areas, I'd place that section down.  Has anyone had experiences with this, good/bad etc?  Would love to hear them.   Reason behind this is: I can't draw, and as funny as it was the first few dozen times, having every drawing, whether its a tower, a hallway, an island etc etc be accused of looking liking a dick is getting a bit stale.    Thanks to everyone in advance! -Colin
#2 Sanndor Jun 02, 2015 13:34:55	I don't think that is a bad idea necessarily, but I could see it being somewhat of a pain in the rear though trying to put together the peices to make what you want and to keep them from moving around.  Have you considered just using a map maker program?  http://pyromancers.com/ is free and fairly easy to use.  You can create a map in Roll20 also and add furniture and whatever in roll 20 then print it out when finished, though it can be a bit more difficult to use.   Sanndor
#3 Rya.Reisender Jun 03, 2015 3:15:27	I'd buy the player versions of the maps from the artist so they aren't marked and labeled (I assume they are in the adventure module as they are in other adventure modules, didn't get PotA yet) and have a high resolution.   Then you can print them out as you stated. I like that too. If you print out the grid version, you can even use miniatures to track the positions of everyone (if you want to use grid at all).   The biggest downside I found with this solution is when the dungeon doesn't have a "rectangle" room shape. It's hard to determine how to cut the single pieces before you play. I had one of my players once saying "It's a shame we saw that to the east around the corner is a dead-end, even though from our angle we probably shouldn't have seen that yet.", but other than that I didn't encounter much problems with that idea.
#4 ehenning Jun 03, 2015 20:04:03	I am running PotA starting this month. I will print out a large format version of the maps (bought hi-res from the artists at http://mikeschley.zenfolio.com) and then put it under plexiglass on the table. I will cover it with sticky paper (like postit on the bottom) so I can remove/move to uncover as needed.   Hi res maps make a big difference. Alternative is to embed a flat screen TV into my gaming table and use that...but I'm not rich ;)
