Hi fellow DMs!

So let me describe the “dungeon” to get you in the right mood.

So the place is a cellar of a elven mansion which belonged to an elven squire. The mansion itself is long since gone. The only outside feature is a statue that was spared the wear of time and elements because of “special” stone it was made of.

A band of goblins made the cellar their hideout. Breaking down a lot of walls and tunneling to make extra space and set crude traps. One wall shows clear marks of attempts to break it down but it held. With easy investigation check it would be revealed that the stone is similar to one that the statue is made of. Thats the wall I want to make into “secret door”.It would lead into a private armoury and workshop  of the squire. Where he used to take care of his armour and weapons.

So what should the triggers be for such a place?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Elves would probably use enchantments to hide the door. Maybe the room isn't even physically present unless you know the correct elven words. It could be an extradimensional space. To enter, you speak an elvish phrase, which makes elvish runes appear on the door. You then press the bricks underneath the correct runes, to open the door. If you press the wrong runes, it could shock the intruder, or sound an alarm.

you are talking about a squire, a assistant of a knight.

Even for elf, permanent magical enchantment are costy. persoanlly I believe a simple mechanism that lock the door shut. The switch could be hidden in a such a way that only a 6ft tall person with darkvision can see it. The goblin are 3 ftt tall, so they never had the proper angle to see it, human that would have investigate didn't had darkvision so couldn't see it.
