Here's a thought for a campain... Death is gone! But all the stuff you need to live still happens. Like hunger, sleep, pain, stuff like that. You have the sick that can't die. The wounded can't die. The tortured can't die. The Eaten can't die. Plus limit on resorces, no Circle of Life. Everything out of balance. I think it would be a neat twist on the save the world story. Don't save lives. End them! How death stopped is up to my fellow DMs. I know how i'm running my game. Death is a natural force like gravitiy but a eldritch machine was activated blocking death. Not only must the Heros find it they must counter it with out horrable backlash. Thinking they might need to make a avatar of death to govern that till things balanced. Might be my way to bring the Raven Queen to Eberron. So please post your twists and takes on this. Have Fun and run with it

I can remember an old Xena or Hercules episode that was almost exactly like this...  Caused people to go completely out of control because there was no punishment like death.

Fighting like crazy men and going almost berserk with bloodrage, but no one died so the bloodthirst never got satisfied.

Thats all I can recall, but was the first thing I could remember!

This was the premise for Torchwood: Miracle Day. I'd recommend checking that out, since it'll mesh well with your idea. It should help you greater understand the tone. If you want to make this a more Politics-driven campaign, make healing really slow, remove things such as magical healing, and see how things go. Well, that's my two copper. Have a good one and best of luck.

How would lack of death affect the combat rules? No death saves, but players and monsters still go unconscious at 0 hp (essentially down but stable)? Or something more elaborate, like players and monsters can go on when on 0 hps, but start to risk dismembermemt, beheading and other such inconveniences?

You guys should definitely watch Torchwood: Miracle Day. It'd answer a lot of questions. Plus, it was just a good show.

The first time I saw this idea was actually in a B&W episode of either the twilight zone or the outler limits, but's appeared in Torchwood, Supernatural, Charmed, and others.

My thought was that consurvation of energy. So they would be like ghosts but, haveing not died undead magic doesn't work on them. Their body is gone but still can't pass on.

i like the thought that healing magic has stoped as well. So the Circle of Life has stopped.
