| #1PhobosFeb 25, 2015 5:34:09 | I'm using the Lost City adventure, but wanted to fill it with a desert lizard tribe (worshiping a false god at the base), keeping the concept of "3 factions" by using the differences in the Yuan-Ti as a base. Pureblood as the "slaves", then the 3 forms of yuan-ti malison as the factions. A potential abomination as well, but adjusted.
I have five 4th level players. I need to adjust the monsters as I go. I assume I can either take them as is, and use quantity to make it a challenge for the party or I can do some fast monter adjustments as per the DMG p274
Any suggestions others have doen that work better? I don't have time tonight to sit and redo each encounter, so tonight I need to wing it. But I can then sit and revamp the adventure.
Thanks in advance.

I'll make a chart with the current XP budget for each of those for the current level and the next upcoming level, which only takes a few minutes.
Once you have that, it's pretty easy to build encounters on the fly using CR and the encounter building rules, taking into considering the multiplier for the number of monsters in an encounter. Just add the monster XP, multiply if necessary, and you're pretty good to go. Keep in mind that since you're doing it as you go, you might want to make adjustments to a roll here and there if it turns out to be more deadly or more easy than you planned.
Also, some monsters in older editions had powers that made them more or less powerful than they are in 5E, so just make sure that what you're using in the 5E books is equivalent. |
