Read over the favored soul and while it seems pretty darn good, I do have one concern: what's the point of Extra Attack at level 6? Seems like it forces you to take shillelagh or MC. Not that that's a bad idea anyway, but it does seem out of place for a full caster who should be spending their time in combat casting or concentrating on spells for their action. Would my player want to run up to the bad guy with his 6 +5d6+con hp and swing with shillelagh if he's out of spells, or keep casting cantrips? Seems to me like the choice is obvious.
I'm considering changing the 6th level feature to one of these, and am curious for y'all's input.
0. Keep it as is (but someone please explain the perks for the player if I do so, beyond shillelagh or MC). 1. Trade out for Action surge (would not stack with fighter 2) once per long rest. 2. Trade out for Zealous Soul, my prototype custom feature: when you use your action to cast a sorcerer cantrip that deals damage and has a casting time of one action, you may cast that cantrip again (basically this boils down to Extra Attack but only applicable to damage cantrips). 3. As 2, but only comes into effect when you're out of leveled slots.
I'm partial to either 2 or 3, and the caveat that it must be a sorcerer cantrip would prevent an agonizing eldritch blast from being available in this manner.
EDIT: This just came to mind...the way I read the rp background, favored soul is based on deity, not class. So in theory, would my fellow DMs allow a favored soul to MC cleric of the same god but taking another domain (obviously only pertains to deities with two)? |

Posting from my phone and formatting is weird...otherwise I'd've used the edit feature better. |

Not saying that the class would be the best stand alone choice for a martial character, but it definitely will perform much better than any of the other origins. |

Some people will consider that a worthwhile option, even without MC'ing. I don't know about you, but there are always more cantrips that I want than my class gives me. |

I think the sorcerer list with 2 "domain" cleric spells per level works fine. However I do think they should be allowed to choose cantrips from either the sorceror or cleric list when they learn new ones. |
