Was wondering if anyone has given out a feat as a reward.

Did you pick the feat, or did you let them pick?

What was your reason they got it?

I have not done a feat as reward yet, but if I were to do so it would be a feat of my choosing that was related to what was done to gain the reward or as mechanical representation of the reward offered for a task - along the lines of "if you help me out on this, I'll teach you [insert a thing a feat can do]".

I have, in a non D&D campaign, had this kind of situation: the party helped out a master swordsman who they might while he was traveling, so he agreed to teach them swordplay (which it the system being used I represented as those characters not already proficient with a sword becoming proficient, and those characters already proficient gaining a +1 to attack rolls with a sword - if it were a 5th edition campaign, I'd have likely handled that as each player getting to choose between Weapon Master (weapon choices limited to swords) or Martial Adept (maneuver choices limited to things that fit the swordsman style, like parry and disarm).

I give feats as rewards, but I use 3e/4e feats and 4e boons. I generally use the feats with more flavor because those are the feats that people always liked, but never really get a chance to take.

I pick the reward based on who it is coming from or how it relates to the story. For example, I gave a player the 4e Aberrant Mark of Madness (modified for 5e) as a reward for experience a mental assault from a powerful Far Realm creature.
