Ok, so i recently got a DMG because money finally allowed, and its nicely stacks with me startin to dm our group. But I got to the pages about building a multiverse, and something just clicked then exploded in my brain. Why is the feywild described as a supervibrant over colorful version of the material plane? Because its the lowest elemental plane to the Material world! Like, fey creatures where once elementals, but as the churning chaos of creation formed together, and the material world was created, the edges of it where still connected and is more vibrant becuase its got more power in it. So fey creatures are just elementals that have been next to the Matiral world for long enough to start emulating the creatures found there. the various Nymphs; like water tree and clouds, are spirits of earth water and air molding themselves to look like elves or humans. Sprities and pixies after little people like halfings and maybe even insects!

Dude I feel like my mind is exploding. Even elves get a cool creation now. They are so in tuned to nature and live so long because they are forces of nature. The first elemantal spirits in the matieral world would eventually become the elves. Dwarves could be the same, spirits of stone in the material world. Ugh dude, im like actually trembling right now!!!!

I thought it was more that the Feywild is a conduit for positive energy from the Positive Plane, while the Shadowfell is a conduit for negative energy from the Negative Plane (see Appendix C: The Planes of Existence in the PHB).

OP: your idea is pretty sweet. It dovetails with existing canon but provides what is effectively an alternate creation story; perhaps a "scientific" explanation as opposed to all the "the gods created the races" stories. I'm on board.

The Positive and Negative Energy planes used to be part of the Elemental ("Inner") Planes.    In 4e, they kinda merged the Negative Energy plane with the Shadow Plane, and then created the Feywild from the Positive Energy plane.

So...  with the Pos. and Neg. Energy planes now kinda floating outside even the Outer Planese, Shadow and Feywild kinda are the explorable Pos. and Neg. Planes....

You could potential tie in the concepts of the sidhe and the bansidhe. In gaelic mythology there were good spirit (sidhe) and bad spirits (bansidhe). Basically the Fey and the Dark Fey. The Fey are elemental beings infused with life energy from the Positive Material and the Dark Fey from the Negative material.

Ah, true magic. The kindling of imagination..... I know EXACTLY what you felt. It's like having gasoline dumped onto smoldering coals.
