#1 Emirikol Aug 22, 2014 16:45:27	I sold off my old AD&D source material for FR decades ago.  What is the new source for material for it?   I'm not talking about gods, but about the area that D&D5e will be set.   jh

#3 DM_HEEGZ Aug 22, 2014 19:06:02	For my 5e stuff I am relying mostly on my FR materials from 3ed. I am using the FR campaign setting, races of faerun, and faiths and pantheons primarily. There is some 4ed stuff as well, but I didn't buy any of it. Really, if you just want a single book of FR lore, I would recommend the FRCS for 3ed.
#4 Emirikol Aug 22, 2014 20:07:55	It looks like they really disjointed the setting for 4e.  What the heck?  Was it because so much stuff got shoehorned into Greenwood's home camapign or was there some creative reason for 4e?     jh

I think for the most part the Forgotten Realms remained unchanged (sans complexity of detail) over the decades and so they really switched things up. Some players liked this (myself personally) but a lot did not. Now with 5e we have things 'returning to normal'. Mystra is back, the spellplague is over, the weave is returning, flying cities are out, etc.
#6 Emirikol Aug 23, 2014 7:42:22	Well, I suppose they tried a similar thing for Greyhawk back in the day.  I can remember how spastic people got when Carl Sargeant came in and darkened the world (to resemble his alma mater of writing..Warhammer).  I personally preferred the darker world at the time and brought /back/ to life.   I don't see those same kinds of discussions with Forgotten Realms though.  I suppose perhaps there are so many novels, etc. that it somehow isn't discussed as much.   My only annoyance is it appers really to just kind of "undermountained" the world.  It doesn't seem to have done much else culturally.  Probably doesn't matter though for 5e as it appears the adventure themes presented thus fare are going to be the same as all previous editions:  overmountain for a couple levels, then undermountain for the rest.  ;)     jh               ,,
