I've been working on this generator since near the end of the playtest, updating it to the full rules as we got them. Now that the Monster Manual is out, and the generator is in a place where it's consistently producing usable stat blocks, I figued I'd release the alpha.

So here it is, in it's alpha form.

Download: MonsterGenerator.zip

Just keep all of the files together, and run the EXE. It will produce an HTML file with your generated monsters. You can change some of the settings in the config file (you can just open it in a text editor).

The way the generator works is, it produces monsters in sets. Typically, at each level, it produces a smattering, which is some monsters that might share a theme or habitat, but are otherwise unrelated, a tribe, which is one type of creature, varying from lowly minions to a more powerful leader, a set of slavers, which includes some slave monsters and some masters, and a set of variants, which is one type of monster, all of the same level, but with variations. You can randomzie this if you want.

Things that I still need/plan to add:

 - Currently, the list of possible special abilities is very light. This is the main area that will be expanded as I go.

 - Damage from weapons is not based on the weapon at all. I'm planning to fix this so that a longsword always does 1d8, a greatsword always does 2d6, etc.

 - I'll be adding spellcasting (both innate and normal).

 - I'll be adding summoning (includign creation, spawning, etc.).

 - The naming system currently uses mostly actual monster names with added prefixes and suffixes. This is mostly due to the generator's original purpose of creating a full set of monster for an "alternate dimension" of sorts. Ultimately I'll be adding an option to use fabricated names from collections of syllable instead. This is a low priority though, since it's easy to rename monsters as you see fit.

 - Eventually I'll be adding cross-level sets, like how dragons work in the MM.

 - Later, I plan to add legendary monsters.

 - Ultimately, I'm planning to make a dungeon populator, that will construct encounters using the monsters generated by this program.

Feedback:

Mostly what I need for feedback is general suggestions for what kinds of thigns you'd like to see produced, and reports of typos/bugs. Eventually I'll be looking for content, but I have a lot of old monster books to go through before I'll be needing that.

Special Thanks to Surf for their monster analysis, which has helped immensely.

Great initiative! Glad my articles could provide some assistance.

I'll have a gander as soon as I can afford the time, but it'll be a few days at least.

If I can otherwise help let me know...
