Having Multiple Background Features

So I was wondering what the impact would be of allowing somebody to have two background features, i.e. a Folk Hero who gets Rustic Hospitality from common folk but also is a former Soldier with the benefits of Military Rank. And maybe have such a character gain fewer (or no) proficiencies / languages from background to maintain balance with people who stuck with just one background. Thoughts?

It certainly doesn't seem like much of a problem and is rather flavorful. I'd say talk with other DMs personally and hear from them. Write up an example and show it around.

I think this would work great in a campaign where the PCs are a bit older and more experienced.

It's more flavourful than just slapping on a few extra levels and you can always do both.

I also see this being useful for a small group of only 2 or 3 PCs. It would let you cover a few more bases that would usually be lacking.

I don't think it would break anything.

It wouldn't break anything, but it makes it harder for a character to stand out in a group. If multiple people in your group know where to look to research any information, or all of you can forage enough food for 6 people every day, it makes it less special.
