My players are very weary of starting at level one and i'm just not going to do that to them again. I plan on running Hoard of the Dragon Queen starting at level 7 (three-PC party). I'll be doing milestone advancement and  I'd rather the PCs not gain more than 2 levels during this adventure so that when we pick up Rise of Tiamat, they won't be too far ahead in level. I have no reservations whatsoever with skipping over half of the book and have them start off with any information necessary to get things rolling. The half-elf sorcerer in the group has the hermit background and I'm considering having this character starting off with most of the information critical to the adventure; his discovery feature will be all about the dragonmasks methinks. Maybe he even has had one of the dragonmasks in his keeping during his life of seclusion, not knowing what this artifact was until now. Perhaps shortly after the discovery, an attempt was made to steal it from him.   Anywho, aside from scaling up encounters to their level, are there any suggestions anyone can give me? What would you say is the real "meat" of the adventure that I cannot by any means skip over?
