Adopting all of the rules for wildshape, with the following modifications:
Would you consider these changes reasonable?

I also find the process of applying half the damage suffered in polymorphed form as damage to your normal hit point total to be a very complicated mess, with the added complication of removing the intentionally there safety-net of turning into a tough creature to provide opportunity to survive and escape - since if the caster had 5 HP left it wouldn't matter that they turned into a rhinoceros and tried to run away, the next 10 damage they take leaves them dying (or is even further a complicated mess because the caster can be out of HP and still conscious/alive thanks to the buffer of hit points provided by their polymorphed form... but then drops as soon as the spell ends because there is no accompanying heal your actual HP half the amount of healing your polymorphed form receives rule accompanying)
It would be a lot simpler and easier to track to keep the caster's hit point total as-is and provide an ammount of temporary hit points from the polymorph spell (either the creature's hit points, or just the number of hit dice the creature has)., if your intent was to reduce the survival enhancing nature of the spell. |
