How would you rule a bear trap?

If a player wants to buy a non-magical bear trap, what would you use for its damage?  Also would you set any other rules for it, like what Strength DC to break free or to arm it?

For a bear trap I would probably do something along the lines of the following:

DC 15 Wisdom (perception) to notice, Dexterity saving throw to avoid being caught by, and Strength check to pry open and escape.

Getting caught in the trap causes 1d10 piercing damage, and any caught is grappled until they escape.

I'm pretty sure this is what you are looking for, taken from the PHB:

Hunting Trap. When you use your action to set it, this trap forms a saw-toothed steel ring that snaps shut when a creature steps on a pressure plate in the center. The trap is affixed by a heavy chain to an immobile object, such as a tree or a spike driven into the ground. A creature that steps on the plate must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or take 1d4 piercing damage and stop moving. Thereafter, until the creature breaks free o f the trap, its movement is limited by the length o f the chain (typically 3 feet long). A creature can use ts action to make a DC 13 Strength check, freeing itself or another creature within its reach on a success. Each failed check deals 1 piercing damage to the trapped creature.

Hey, cool, I wasn't far off from the developers having already snuck in and made a bear trap for everybody... though I am a bit miffed that I didn't notice it on any of the time I've passed through the equipment section thus far.

Awesome, thanks very much!!  I sort of assumed it wasn't in the book, but this works!

For something the size of a beaver, giant rat, etc. . . I'd use the hunting trap. For a bear trap, which by difinition needs to be larger and stronger, I'd use the bear trap posted by AaronOfBarbaria. The only thing I might change would be the DC to detect it. I'd either make it the same as the hunting trap, or more than likely give it a DC based on the skill of the individual settign the trap.

But that is me.

Bear trap is an oxymoron.  Practically by definition, bears can't be traps.

That said, I like Aaron's version.  I would say the lower damage PHB version might be for smaller animals (a trap isn't much good if it just totally severs the little critter's foot) and is triggered by less weight than Aaron's version.
