For discussion's sake, the party will be: lion, wolf, panther, eagle, bear.
Also, how would you go about in regards to stats? Would you allow them to use their class features also in animal form? Should they keep their HP, or used those of the animals? |

Though I'd give then the max + any con bonuses, not the average. ● I'd allow them to magically speak, but only to each other & other members of their new species. ● I'd not allow spellcasting or class/former race abilities. Afterall, the point of this is to gave to play as NORMAL animals. ● Str, Dex, Con = animal stats. Int, Wis, Cha = the players. ● I'd have any animal knocked unconscious revert back to their true form. Unfortunately as soon as the character regains a HP they'll revert back to animal form, fully healed. ● challenges: 1st they must survive x days/weeks in these new forms. Other than that? Predators, others of their "type" seeing them as threats to their established territory, hunters/poachers, hunter traps, goblins wanting to capture & train the wolf. An adventurer/monster summoning one of them to come attack it's foes.... And if they should fall unconcious & revert to normal form? Then they become known as were-creatures! |

(Say, an orc gang that tears down trees just because they can.) - Keep watch while a treant moves some forest into / around a farm. Expect the farmer to send a runner for help. - Carry a message to a druid in perma-wildshape form. He / they never resume humanoid form any more, so they need an intelligent animal to speak with. - A "blightspawned" creature (use the corrupted plant thingies in MM) contaminates any pure-natural beast it touches, but you magically-enhanced creatures should be able to fight and destroy them just fine. - Give the eagle some spotlight time: one of their opponents is an aaracockra who must be negotiated with; he refuses to alight on soil or dirt. - Have them face a group of foes who are transformed like them but into snake, porcupine, pike (fish), roadrunner, raven. - Some gods are embodied by an animal spirit (Set = snake, Llolth = spider). Fight and chase off a bunch of wildshaped Cleric/Druids.
