Levitate and life-saving heroics

My group is playing HotDQ.  We got into a big swamp, found some canoes and a few allies, went paddling off following a trail.  As a random encounter we ran into the Creature From The Black Lagoon - excuse me, a Shambling Mound.  This thing has an engulf attack which is much like the classic T-Rex's swallow whole.  tCftBL popped up in front of our Cleric and ate her.  Due to how the initiative sequence came out, she was going to die before she could do anything about it.  Everybody else (including the allies, to my surprise) has been dumping our biggest attacks into it, and it's not even bloodied.  Then our Sorcerer had an idea:

He wants to use Levitate to pull her out from inside tCftBL.  Can he do this?  Why / why not?

Desperately seeking advice.

I'm not sure what kind of action a "pull" is, but I can say that if he was to try and levitate and "Shove" her out of it, he could not do it without quicken. Cast a Spell and Shove are both actions, meaning he could only do 1 on his turn. With Quicken he could do both, however.

Nope, magic needs a 'clear path' to the target.

Unfortunatley levitate specifically states "one creature or object of your choice that you can see within range..." so unless he can see the cleric then he can't use levitate. However he could use levitate on the mound and maybe use his action to shake him up and down to spit out the cleric? I don't know, sounds like a pickle to me. Hopefully the DM gave sufficient warning before the cleric got swallowed so quickly.
