| #1DMMilesMar 13, 2015 14:54:17 | This may seem silly, but recently I'm trying to get more story telling into my campaign. I was calculating the loot drop for a pack of ghouls when I realized, I don't even know why they would be carrying any kind of loot to be honest. None of them are equiped, and from what I understand, ghouls don't really need money or treasure since they're more so just brainless creatures who want to devour flesh. Can anyone tell me how I'm supposed to include any kind of loot to this kind of a situation? |

But I see what you're saying, I may just not include any. |

Ghouls don't carry treasure unless something told them to (like the smarter Ghasts that might be part of their pack), so they are typically found with no treasure.
However, ghouls don't clean up after themselves, and most other creatures avoid the stink inherent to ghoul dens (that of putrescent flesh), so ghouls found with a fresh kill or in their den may have incidental treasures in the belongs of their victims which are still nearby (i.e. they pulled the magic armor off that guy so they could get at his tasty innards, which means the armor is just laying about nearby). |

If they're near civilized lands and the ghouls are a known problem, there could be Wanted posters promising a reward for taking care of them. As you stated one of them could be carrying an arm from a previous victim, for ring/bracelet art objects, or standing over the victim's corpse for possible other loot. If you can't justify tying the loot to the ghouls but still want them to have treasure reward, you can just hold on to it and include it in the next loot distribution. |
