Minor spoilers for the adventure in the starter set - read no further if you are playing or plan to play it.

So, I just started running this for my players yesterday.  So far, so good.  But I'm looking ahead, and I'm running into a potential problem with the next section, the part that takes place in and around the town of Phandalin.

One of the major goals for the party, prompted by just about every NPC, is to rid the town of the Redguard Ruffians.  However, one of the pregens, specifically the rogue, is apparently a member of this gang, according to his background.

So ... I'm not sure how to play this.  It seems like the PCs could take serious, serious advantage of this.  I can just imagine the rogue walking into every room of the Redband hideout, making nice, and then allowing the PCs to ambush them ...

Has anyone else encountered this?  Thoughts and advice?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: topic title, "PHandelver."  Ahem.

Carefully read the halfling pre-gen character's background. You will see that the Redbrands want the rogue dead, so making nice probably isn't in the cards. Consider giving the character some useful information about their hideout and general strengths and weaknesses, however.

Several people have given the halfling a map of only part of the Manor.  Reasoning, he was not an important person to the group, he didn't get to learn secrets or get to enjoy the cool stuff.  He knows the front door and hallway  and whatever you can reach in 1 - 2 turns of movement.  Nothing about (or what's behind) any secret doors.  This gives the PCs the feel of having a "leg up" or an "in", but not enough to trivialize the encounter.  Maybe the halfling doesn't want to share his knowledge...
