| #1Greenstone.WalkerJan 11, 2015 19:20:04 | While reading the last section of the book over the weekend, I was struck by a question. Why isn't Nezznar already at the Forge? He has been at the mine at least a week because Tharden was killed over a week ago.
If the players spend a lot of time heading to Old Owl Well, Agatha's Home, Thundertree and so on, it's possible that Nezznar could have been at the mine uninterrupted for several weeks. Why is he still stuck? I don't expect that the PCs will take a week to clear the entire place.
On the other hand, Nezznar only has 8 bugbears, four spiders and Vhelen. No clerics, so no healing. I guess he's doing a lot of "five-minute adventuring days".
To clarify my thinking, I tried to come up with a timeline. This led me to another question. When exactly does Nezznar learn the location of Wave Echo Cave? It must be quite early, because he tells the location to the bugbears that he sends to the Redbrands Hideout.
Does Nezznar know the location of the cave before Gundren and Sildar are captured? Is this why Gundren's map is still in Grol's quarters - Nezznar doesn't actually need it.
Or does Nezznar learn the location of the cave from Gundren's interrogation? In this case, it's possible the PCs could be at the mine only a couple of days behind Nezznar.
Related, was Thorden killed before or after Gundren and Sildar were captured? If the answer is "before" then this actually gives a good justification for why Gundren and Sildar went on ahead of the PCs - his brothers had missed a regular message and Gundren was worried.
Comments and sugestions welcome, thanks in advance.
