One of the things they miss the most is the ability to create magic items, even just basic stuff like potions & scrolls. I was wondering if there are any DMs out there that have incorperated the Crafting Rules from the DMG into their 5e campaigns, and your thoughts on the effect it has had in general ? |

They have expressed that they like that the option is their, and that they intend to use it at some point, but since magic items aren't needed for their characters to have reasonably good chances of success at their adventuring, there isn't a feeling that they need to take downtime and supplement what items they have found with what items they can craft. |

What is the prerequisites to making potions, or healing potions. Cure wounds? Do you need to know herbalism? The rules I'm still trying to get a grip on? How does one make a flame tongue sword or an amulet of health?

You can have other characters help in the creation of an item, each contributing 25 gp worth of work each day, and these helpers only need to meet the level requirement. So using the example of the healing potion, a single character with spell slots, appropriate level, and formula can create the potion in 2 days work as TS stated, or could have another character that is at least 3rd level help them and could complete the work in 1 day.
Whether you can get an item creation time to below 1 day, or create multiples of an item in a single day, by having more helpers is up to your DM (I favor allowing the latter such process, which means a party of 4 characters working together could complete 2 potions of healing in a single day). |

A higher level scroll is less and less common and quickly you are getting to a scroll with a single spell on it being a kings fortune AND taking many many days (at 25GP per day) to get one spell scribed. This clearly seems broken or not working as intended. I understand a special sword taking weeks or months even to craft, but a Dimension Door scroll? or Flame Strike? That is totally broken as far as I can tell (unless i'm misreading it).
How are people handling scroll creation? I'm just starting a new campaign (5.0) so it's not an issue yet, but would like this figured out before we get too far down the road.

Creating scrolls took a ton of effort - gathering rare, thematically appropriate, fresh ingredients for the ink and making it yourself, for one - in the editions before 3rd, so I have some tolerance for it meaning working for a serious amount of time. I just deacribe a large portion of the work to prep rather than writing. |
