I had been reading through the topics, and someone said that 5th edition was not supposed to be used with miniatures, is this true? I am a new GM, and was looking forward to everyone having their own figure, as to make the game a little more immersive. And I thought that ToD actually has its own line of minis...
Also, where are the best (and cheapest hopefully) places to find quality miniatures?
It does not require the use of miniatures but everything is designed to be easily convertable. Wizards sells a lot of minis, they would be foolish to completely discontinue them.
All ranges, areas, distances, sizes etc are in multiples of 5 so the conversion to the grid is trivial. There is also a section of the basic rules that discusses playing on a grid. The DMG should have more details on playing on a grid (such as how cones and lines should work on the grid, etc)
Until then it is pretty easy to pick something that works
It's meant to be easy to use with TotM or with minis. They even released a set of minis specifically for 5E called Icons of the Realm, which is made by Whizkids. It goes with the Starter Set.

WhizKids, Paizo and Reaper Miiatures all make prepainted plastic miniatures. The older official D&D minis are still available in the secondary market. If you enjoy (or at least don't mind) the fairly simple process of painting your own, there are any number of companies producing unpainted plastic minis at this point.
