Monk Attacks with versatile weapons

Hi All

What's the general consensus here? When a monk uses the attack action with a monk weapon they can make one unarmed attack as a bonus action. The example in the players handbook is for making an attack with a quarterstaff, but a quarterstaff is versatile. Does the attack have to be one handed? Or can the monk attack two handed, get the higher damage die and then take an unarmed strike as well?

Really sorry as you can see I'm new to the forum and have just realised this should have been posted in 'rules help'.

It is perfectly within the rules for a monk to use a quarterstaff's versatility to get increased damage and then make their unarmed attack as a bonus action, since "unarmed attack" is not necessarily a punch; it could be a kick, a knee, an elbow, a headbutt, or any other form of the monk slamming their own body into their opponent violently.

Thanks for that, its what I've been going with, but it was queried and I thought it would be good to get feedback on that.
