| #1AnimeiusJul 22, 2014 16:53:23 | My players want to take over a city and then run the city. I was wondering if there was a program or some other way outside of drawing it, that would allow them to be able to conquer other territories, get resources and expand their town. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. |

For cities, you can use RPG City Map Generator from RPG Library, for maps I tend to use Hexographer. As for rules, the exploration and kingdom rules from Pathfinder's Ultimate Campaign (Available on the PFSRD) are rather setting agnostic - and can be easily modified into being 5e compliant. If you don't mind dropping $10, then ACKS has more old-school rules on domain rulership - pathfinder requires a lot more bookkeeping and can lead to some insane stacking bonuses (Yes, let's build a city that gives everybody a +15 to all craft and profession checks to make money, and that's before we make it even larger). If you're going to use those exploration rules, then keep some hexpaper, preferably with numbered hexes so you can make notes off the map, on hand for physical notation. I suggest the sub-sector maps used for Traveller - they're 8 hexes wide and 10 hexes high, giving you 80 hexes of exploration room. They also have numbered hexes, and are made to combine conveniently into larger sizes - the sector is a 4x4 area of subsectors, and a Domain is 4 sectors. So you have the option for a fairly large map that can be easily combined into larger sizes. |
