Spoilers within. I need help having put myself in a tight spot.   As I have said before, I am not at all well acquainted with the current state of Faerun, most of what I am familiar with was eclipsed by fourth edition which I did not find interesting enough to dabble in (I am still not clear on what precisely the spell plague was but I heard a rumor that it reduced Elminster into a sort of artefact devoring vampire, which was enough to disabuse me of any lingering curiousity) so when I came to Thundertree I only skimmed the backstory on it (ancient Primordial unearthed, much havoc is the gist of it I gather) but I was at a loss to explain the continued appearance of the poorly-defined ash zombies, twig blights, corrupted vegetation et al. I am not a big fan of contrivance or convenience in narrative, so in order to explain the after effects continuing through thirty years and a dedicated druid's efforts to contain, control and ultimately cleanse the area I decided upon having a primal breach present at the site of the volcano. Perhaps as a residual scar from whatever happened previously, I didn't give it much more thought than that really. It seemed a peripheral matter and I had more pressing concerns. For nothing other than constitancy I had it having a distinct, but subtle, impression on the local weather.   The NPCs never mentioned it, I never placed any particular emphasis on it (in fact, at the dawn of the new day each morning is the only time I referencedthe weather without prompting), but my players seized upon the conflict between the seasonal temperatures and conditions I was detailing and the sort of terrain and flora in my descriptions noticing there were some irregularities present (they have played with me often enough to pan through every description I provide as though sifting for gold, so I really should have anticipated this). It wasn't like I had hail on a sunny summer day, I just upped the ambient temperature by about ten degrees fahrenheit and the humidty by fifteen percent.    Anyway, it has become a minor obsession of theirs and this week I fielded enough inter-session questions that I suspect they want to investigate it further this week. I don't want to introduce anything new, unless the idea is good enough to warrant it, and would love to employ the existent elements somehow: Reidoth, Venomfang and the cultists. I though about maybe having Favric conducting a ritual using the druid as a conduit to draw power from the breach for Venomfang to siphon from (sort of like how the Dragonborn abused their own primal affinity during the Crucible) but I'm not excited about the idea and it is a little contrived, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid. Anyway, any ideas will be appreciated. So please, please, help me out.
