Need help on undead campaign

This is going to be a short campaign. For a bachelor party, I am going to run a short campaign (20 hours?). They will start first level (they have no 5e experience). My basic idea is: They will start off in some dungeon, get overwhelmed, and killed by a necromancer. They get turned into undead. Somehow (how?) they retain their sentience and go off to kill their necromancer. Then they can go on living as undead, or turn back human.

I will use Gravetouched from

http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?378396-The-Book-of-the-%28Not-So%29-Dead-Undead-Options-for-5e-PCs-%28PEACH

as the template for their undead state.

As you can see I have a few holes to fill. Even if you can fill one of them, please reply here and help me out.

Thanks!

D&d for a bachelors party?!

Damn, now I've heard everything.

My only advice is to hire some stippers and tell everyone they're here to save the day!

I like the idea of them being killed by a necromancer and they retain some level of their old memories. You could have them roll to see HOW MUCH they remembered from their past life, or maybe they see something that 'sparks' memories. Maybe they are sent to wipe out a village to make more undead for the necromancer? I think you should make them Wights or something, not just straight up mindless zombies, that way they don't suffer too much loss in stats or ability to use weapons and such. Maybe the necromancer has 'better plans' for these bodies (after he kills them)

I am just thinking on my keyboard really haha. If they are good aligned, they may want to dispose of the encromancer and then 'forfeit' their lives to a priest so they can rest and be at peace. FOr that, they should kill some innocents but still 'feel' like its wrong and thus they feel that killing the necromancer and then giving themselves up to rest would sort of redeem them from their past crimes.

Hopefully this helps a bit, good luck on the adventure

You could have some good entity like a god, fey, or the ghost of some previous victim corrupt the necromancy process in an effort to defeat the necromancer. This would allow you to declare that they kept their sentiance. Maybe no one can get close to the necromancer and this was the only way to get somoene inside his sanctum.

Really cool idea you have. I hope it goes well.
